After a brief break, rainfall activity to pick up in Tamil Nadu

October 22, 2015 12:48 PM | Skymet Weather Team

In the month of October Tamil Nadu has so far observed rainfall deficiency of 13% as Northeast Monsoon has not yet set in. However, isolated rain is being observed at some places in the state. Since the last few days a cyclonic circulation was over Comorin and adjoining South Tamil Nadu, which was giving rain in the state.

But now the cyclonic circulation has shifted westwards, towards Lakshadweep due to which the weather in Tamil Nadu will remain dry for next few days.

However, another cyclonic circulation is over Southwest Bay of Bengal, which will gradually intensify and move towards Tamil Nadu coast by October 27 or October 28. Several areas of Tamil Nadu will start receiving rain thereafter.

We expect the Northeast Monsoon to set in during this time. And though it will be delayed meteorologists at Skymet forecast a good Northeast Monsoon season for Peninsular India, particularly Tamil Nadu.

So far, till October 21 the state has received 102.8 mm of rain against the average of 118.3 mm. In the next few days the rainfall amounts are expected to increase drastically as Northeast Monsoon will set in and good rains are usually observed during the fag end of the October month.
