Active norwesters in Odisha, West Bengal to continue to give heavy rains

For the last 48 hours, many parts of West Bengal and Odisha have been witnessing nor ’wester activities. Due to the fact that this is a favorable period for Nor ’westers in the eastern half of the country, these rains were a result of the same.

These rounds of rains were accompanied by strong gusty winds and lightning strikes.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Baripada 36 mm, Chandbali 19 mm, Midnapore 15 mm, Balasore 15 mm, Bankura 13 mm, Contai 2 mm, Sri Niketan 0.4 mm, Diamond Harbor 0.3 mm, and Burdwan also recorded some traces of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation lies over Bihar and adjoining West Bengal. A trough from this system is also extending up to Manipur across Bangladesh. In addition to this, Western Disturbance is also moving along the north of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal towards further East.

Moreover, the nor ‘wester is likely to remain active over the plains of Gangetic West Bengal and North Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand. Dust storm and thunderstorm with strong gusty winds may reach up to 50-70 kmph at a time during the peak.

Moderate rain is expected at some places with isolated heavy rains in parts. As per the present situation, the activities are expected to continue for the next 48 hours.
