Active Northeast Monsoon to give week long rains over South India, showers may be seen over Goa, Mumbai

Northeast Monsoon has given some good rains over Kerala, Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas. However, the spread hasn’t been much. Now, week long rains are expected to be seen over many parts of South India. In fact, in addition to the five subdivisions that come under the Northeast Monsoon regime, the upcoming rains will also extend to Telangana and North Interior Karnataka. Simultaneously, it may give some rains over Goa and Mumbai as well.

Currently, a low pressure area over Southwest Bay off Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka Coast. This particular system has a very slow movement and will persist for the next 2 days. Thereafter, the system will move westward. In addition to this, we expect the development of a Cyclonic Circulation over North Interior Karnataka and adjoining areas. This system will also stay for some time over that region.

Thus, these systems are expected to give a week long activity over many parts of South India as well as isolated pockets of Goa and Konkan between November 1 and November 6. During the first half of the spell, between November 1 and 4, rains will be more confined over the eastern half including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka.

Later on, between November 5 and 7, rains will shift towards Coastal Karnataka, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka and even Goa. Mumbai on the other hand may see some rains around November 8 and 9.

During this week long rains, most locations will see rains and the total rain amount may exceed 100 mm in many places including Kochi, Chennai, Puducherry, Mangaluru, Bengaluru and adjoining areas. Rains may extend even up to Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Belgam, Bellary, Raichur, Goa, and even Mumbai.
