Updated on November 30, 2019 1:30 PM: Active Northeast Monsoon to bring heavy rain in Chennai for next 48 hours
Many parts of Tamil Nadu have once again received moderate to heavy showers particularly over the southern districts in comparison to the northern districts and the interior parts of the state of Tamil Nadu. However light to moderate rain with one or two intense spells occurred over North Coastal Tamil Nadu.
Chennai has not received heavy rain but still, moderate showers are going on over the city. Few localities have also recorded intense spell of rain which lead to traffic jams and waterlogging at some places.
At present, the Northeast Monsoon, as well as the easterly winds, are still active. So, by today we expect the rainfall activities to increase over many parts of Tamil Nadu including the city of Chennai and suburbs. There will be one or two heavy spells of rain over Chennai. However, most of the parts of Tamil Nadu will also get moderate rains with one or two heavy spells.
These good rainfall activities will continue until tomorrow. By December 02, the rainfall activities will start decreasing over the Southern and the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu. But the Southern parts of Tamil Nadu will continue to get moderate rains on December 02 as well.
By December 03, the rainfall activities will subside over the state of Tamil Nadu and there would be only scattered light rain with one or two moderate spells. Another spell of rain is also expected over the Southern parts of Tamil Nadu on December 05 and December 06.
The rains might decrease and the reason for the decrease in the rainfall activities would be due to the formation of a Low-Pressure Area over the South East Arabian Sea. Gradually it will move towards the Lakshadeep area and the moisture concentration and the rains will be confined over this area leading to a decrease in the rainfall activities over the South Peninsula including the state of Tamil Nadu.
