Southwest monsoon was not very generous for Kerala this year. Northeast Monsoon has also not given any significant rainfall until now over Kerala and it is deficient by 25%. All other states and union territories of South Peninsula are in normal or excess rain category except Lakshadweep which is also deficient by 26%.

Rain activities are expected to increase significantly over Kerala. There may be light to moderate rain with few heavy spells for at least next 2 to 3 days. A Cyclonic Circulation has developed over Kerala and adjoining areas which will persist for another two days. The rain deficiency of Kerala reduced to some extent, but it will not wipe out completely.

In fact, Northeast Monsoon usually remains active over Tamil Nadu and coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh. On the other hand, South interior Karnataka and Kerala usually receives comparatively less rainfall. The onset of northeast monsoon was delayed due to formation of a cyclone Sitrang over Bay of Bengal.

Tamil Nadu may also witness few good spells of rain during next 2 days. However, there may be heavy to very heavy rain over Andaman and Nicobar Islands due to the formation of a cyclonic circulation over South Andaman Sea.
