Active Monsoon to lash West Bengal with heavy rains

Monsoon made an onset over West Bengal including Kolkata on time and has been delivering decent rainfall across the state. At present also, weather conditions are conducive for rains and thundershowers to continue over the region on account of active Monsoon trough.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am, other districts like Bankura received 40.4 mm rainfall, Digha 45 mm, Midnapore 25.2 mm, Sriniketan 13 mm, Baharanpur 7 mm and Asansol 5.9 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation persists over Northwest Bay of Bengal and a trough is extending from Bihar to Northwest Bay of Bengal across Gangetic West Bengal.

Rain and thundershower activities are likely to increase over many parts of Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata now. Light to moderate spells with one or two heavy spells may occur at some parts. Squally winds may also blow during the same time. Cloudy sky and humid weather conditions will prevail.

In the last 24 hours, rainfall across the state was deficit by 50% and the even the seasonal rainfall as on June 15 is deficit by 50%. Monsoon is likely to advance further and cover more parts of West Bengal in the next few days.

Kolkata is witnessing moderate rainfall currently, in the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday it received 10.8 mm. These rainfall activities will increase over Kolkata in the next 24 - 48 hours.
