Southwest Monsoon has been remaining active in parts of Uttar Pradesh. Presently, apart from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh is the only state which is receiving scattered rains right from east to west and from north to south in all the cities. Moreover, there is a strong possibility of receiving some more good rains for the next few days. The rainy spell began over the state around two to three days back and is likely to continue in most of the cities for the next 4-5 days. However, the intensity of rains in most parts is likely to vary from light to moderate with heavy rainfall at one or two places.

According to Skymet Weather experts, the axis of Monsoon trough is lying over Uttar Pradesh. In addition to this, a cyclonic circulation is also active over the state. In the wake of both the weather systems, Monsoon has remained active. Moreover, these two systems would remain in the state for the next 3 to 4 days that would result in the continuation of the rains over most parts of the state.

During the last 24 hours, from 8:30 am on Wednesday, torrential rainfall of 68 mm was recorded in Banda. Similarly, 37 mm in Kanpur, 35 mm in Bareilly, 12 mm in Lucknow and Muzaffarnagar, 9 mm in Aligarh, 6 mm in Agra and Varanasi has witnessed 4 mm of rains.

As of now also, this sequence of rains is likely to remain until September 3. Thereafter, a short break in the rainfall activity can be expected. However, light with isolated moderate rains may continue until the entire week until September 9.

Moreover, it is due to these rains that the seasonal rainfall spanning from June until now has settled at a normal level. This is in fact, despite the poor performance of Monsoon in June, the rain has become normal all because of the widespread rains in the month of July and August.

Till date, East Uttar Pradesh has received 9% less than normal rainfall at 624 mm so far. Meanwhile, West Uttar Pradesh has recorded 595.2 mm rainfall, which is only 2% less than normal. Due to the possibility of rain for the next one week, a slight improvement in these figures is likely, which can reach even above normal.
