For the last many days, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have been witnessing subdued Monsoon conditions. As a result, good rains over both the neighbouring states remained on the lower side for the last few days.
However, Monsoon is now all set to pick up pace over Uttar Pradesh. In fact, one or two places in the state have already recorded moderate to heavy showers in the last 24 hours. Shahjahanpur witnessed heavy showers to the tune of 57 mm in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday. Bareilly too saw 10 mm of rains in during the same time.

According to Skymet Weather, the axis of Monsoon trough is presently running south of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar across Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. The trough is now expected to shift north over Uttar Pradesh. With this, the cyclonic circulation over East Madhya Pradesh would also move in northwest direction.
Therefore, we expect rains to commence over many parts of Uttar Pradesh in next 24 hours. The intensity will increase gradually and light to moderate rains with few heavy spells are possible over Central and West Uttar Pradesh July 12 onwards.
Places like Agra, Lucknow, Ambedkar Nagar, Amethi, Auraiya, Azamgarh, Badaun, Bahraich, Balrampur, Banda, Barabanki, Bareilly, Basti, Etah, Etawah, Faizabad, Farrukhabad, Fatehpur, Firozabad, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Hamirpur, Hardoi, Jalaun, Jaunpur, Kannauj, Kanpur, Kanshiram Nagar, Lakhimpur Kheri, Mainpuri, Moradabad, Pilibhit, Pratapgarh, Rae Bareli, Rampur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shahjahanpur, Shrawasti, Siddharthnagar, Sitapur, Sultanpur and Unnao would see rains of varying intensity in the coming days.
Approaching Monsoon rains would bring fresh lease of life for many areas that have been battling warm and sultry weather conditions for the last few days. These showers are likely to drench the state at least till July 14.
According to Skymet Weather, Uttar Pradesh has been witnessing high rainfall deficiency. As on July 10, East Uttar Pradesh was deficit by 53% and West Uttar Pradesh by 50%. However, improvement is on cards in wake of these upcoming rains.
Weather in Bihar
While Monsoon would go active in Uttar Pradesh, it would not see much change in Bihar. The rain activity would remain subdued over the state for the next 24 hours as well.
Thereafter, Monsoon rains would also cover parts of Bihar but the intensity would be much less in comparison to Uttar Pradesh. We can expect light to moderate rains over several parts of the state such as Gaya, Patna, Samastipur, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Champaran, Madhubani, Supaul and Kishanganj from July 12-14.
At present, the cumulative rainfall deficiency in Bihar stands at 29%. Although Monsoon rains would make an appearance, but we do not see any improvement in the persisting deficiency.
