In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, active northeasterly winds prevailed around the coastal and in the interior parts of Tamil Nadu due to which Tamil Nadu experienced fairly widespread moderate to heavy rains. Whereas, scattered light to moderate rains were seen over the interior parts of Tamil Nadu.
Due to strong gusty winds, we expect such activities to continue along the coastal areas for the next 48 hours reducing thereafter.
The coastal stations would continue to observe moderate to heavy rains. Isolated places may also receive heavy rains during the next 48 hours. The temperatures are below normal over these areas due to the persistence of thick clouding and precipitation in the state.
Now it is the end of Northeast Monsoon and Tamil Nadu has received 348.9 mm of rain against the normal of 354.6 mm which is short by 2% (+/- 19 is normal). However, the cumulative performance of the Northeast Monsoon is good as it has ended with an excess of 32%, which means 140.9 mm of rain against the normal of 106.4 mm.
