After a prolonged dry spell, Chennai rains commenced from November 14 and since then on and off rains continued until November  23. During the last three days, the weather of Chennai has been almost dry with few isolated light rains.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, the city of Chennai received traces of rains. In fact, several areas of Tamil Nadu has seen light to moderate rain and thundershowers , with isolated pockets of coastal districts receiving heavy rains.

Now, the subdued Northeast Monsoon conditions which were prevailing over the South peninsula are all set to be replaced with active Monsoon surge. As per weathermen, the easterly winds are gaining strength due to which we can expect the rainfall activities to increase over the city of Chennai as well as in many parts of Tamil Nadu.

According to our meteorologists, we expect moderate to heavy rains to lash Chennai between November 29 and December 02. Thereafter, the rain activities over Chennai will subside but the southern districts of coastal Tamil Nadu will continue to receive moderate rains with few heavy spells of rain until the first week of December.

Interior districts of the state will also get to see light to moderate rains with an isolated heavy rains but intensity of rains over interior parts would be comparatively less. We can say this may be the last active Monsoon surge for Tamil Nadu in November.

Northeast Monsoon has not performed up to the mark during the rainiest month of November, unlike the onset of month of October which ended with whopping surplus of 54%.
