Southwest Monsoon that arrived before time in Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been giving heavy rain over Port Blair and other nearby stations. In last 24 hours, Port Blair has received 114 mm of rain which is the second heavy spell since the Monsoon hit Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Southwest Monsoon has remained active over Andaman Islands since May 18 and continued to give moderate to heavy rain over the capital city since then. While Port Blair received moderate rain during next few days after May 18, rain intensity picked up pace thereafter. Port Blair received 78 mm of rainfall on May 26 and along with the rain received in last 24 hours, Port Blair has received almost 80% of its monthly rainfall that stands at 339 mm.
The last spell of heavy rain has brought the minimum temperature down to normal as it was settling 2-3 degrees above normal in past few days.
Besides Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Southwest Monsoon is rapidly moving ahead in order to cover Kerala in next few days. While it continues to give heavy rain over Port Blair, Monsoon 2016 has started showing signs of hitting Indian coast anytime as several areas in Kerala have received double digit rainfall in last 24 hours.
