Active monsoon conditions to continue over west Coast including Mumbai

There was a significant delay in the onset of the monsoon over north Konkan and Goa as well as Gujarat. Monsoon made an onset over Mumbai on June 25th. Since then, rain activities are moderate to heavy over many parts of Karnataka, Konkan and Goa, and south Gujarat. Light to moderate rain with a few heavy spells has been continuing over Kerala.

The intensity of rain may decrease over north Konkan and Goa, and South Gujarat during the next 2 to 3 days. However, moderate rain with a few heavy spells is possible over Kerala and coastal Karnataka. There may be heavy to very heavy rain over coastal Karnataka and North Kerala coasts on July 5th and 6th. This rainfall will be due to the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the East Central Arabian Sea near Karnataka coast at about 5.4 Km above mean Sea level.

The weather in Mumbai will not go dry during the next week. The intensity of rain may oscillate between moderate and heavy. We do not expect severe water logging next week as rain will not be continuous and there will be gaps between the rain spells. This will allow the water to flow away. Weather will remain comfortable over Mumbai and its suburbs.

South Gujarat may witness light rain until July 5th or 6th. Thereafter, the intensity will increase once again. Therefore, we can say active monsoon conditions to continue over the entire West Coast until the first 10 days of July.
