Above normal Monsoon rain in Rajasthan brings cheer

July 3, 2016 5:20 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Southwest Monsoon covered entire East Rajasthan and some more parts of West Rajasthan on July 3. Good rains have been observed over whole of Rajasthan, particularly eastern and northern parts, during last 24 hours.

On Saturday, Churu received 75.8 mm of rainfall. Mount Abu also recorded 21.4 mm of rain.

Western parts are still observing subdued Monsoon rains. This is because good rains are missing and only on and off rains are going on.

The normal date for Monsoon to cover entire Rajasthan is July 15. Looking at the present conditions, we can say that much rains are not likely during the next few days in the western parts. However, southeast and northern parts will continue to receive moderate rain and thundershowers during next two days. Thereafter, intensity of rain will reduce significantly.

The next good spell of rainfall is anticipated over Southeast Rajasthan on July 8 and 9. Till then, isolated rain may occur over northern parts but weather will remain largely dry over West Rajasthan.

As of now, West Rajasthan has received 11% surplus rains. East Rajasthan is also 17% surplus in terms of Monsoon rains. It is important to mention that the normal rainfall in West Rajasthan is very low. Therefore, just one or two very spells of Jodhpur and Jaisalmer a couple of days back, helped the region to cover up.
