Above normal minimums to continue in Gujarat

The temperatures across most of Gujarat is on a rising trend these days. In fact, Gujarat sees large fluctuations in the weather scenarios during the winter months. The weather of Gujarat is largely impacted by both the weather of North India and wind intrusion from the Arabian Sea.

The variation in the night temperatures is one of the finest examples of the variation in the weather of the state. Most districts of Gujarat record minimums fluctuating from single digits to higher teens.

At present, a band of medium and high clouds is over the westernmost state of the country leading to an increase in the cloud cover. This cloud cover has resulted in drizzles in isolated parts of the state. In the last 24 hours, Vadodara witnessed some very light spells.

It is due to the cloud cover and rising humidity levels that the minimums have risen well above the normal, particularly over the interior districts of the state. Though the night temperatures are high over the stations along the coastal belt as well, the rise is comparatively lesser.

Today, Amreli, Deesa, and Idar recorded the minimums 6 notches above normal, followed by Ahmedabad, and Veraval wherein the minimums went 5 degrees beyond the normal levels. Moreover, the minimums across Vadodara, Bhavnagar, Naliya, and Rajkot also settled 4 degrees above the normal.

As of now also, the temperatures are expected to continue to remain above the normal and would follow a similar profile for the next 4-5 days. The daytime highs that are resting in lower 30’s would also continue to settle in the same range.

However, after 24 hours when the cloud cover would start thinning, a rise in the day temperatures could be seen. However, not much changes in the night temperatures can be expected.

In fact, during the latter half of the month, most parts of the state record maximums in high 30’s. There have been previous records when most stations of the state reeled under a near-40-degree maximum. Meanwhile, the Saurashtra and Kutch regions are hotter than the mainland.

As per Skymet Weather, this would be in association with the cyclonic circulation that is expected to form over South Rajasthan and Gujarat. Due to this, the warm and humid winds from the Arabian Sea would prevail thereby leading to a rise in temperatures. Moreover, light sprinkles could still be a possibility however, significant rains are not foreseen.
