Just a fortnight ago, the entire North Indian region was under the grip of chilly wintry days. Blazers and sweatshirts were still in vogue and a necessity.
Nights were chilly and windy. Days were also cold enough to be called as wintry afternoons. Areas in the west and down south were also observing pleasant weather conditions.
Winter had not bid its goodbyes and summer was still in a faraway land catching a train to pay India a visit. However, in a matter of few days, things changed.
While winter bid a quick adieu, summer began to pace towards its destination. What were called the last few days of winter have now transformed into a theatrical trailer of the upcoming season. Days have become hotter, and maximums have begun to soar. Meanwhile, the winds during the evening hours became pleasant and inviting.
2015 has already been declared as the hottest year ever recorded. Also, January 2016 has also been the warmest ever on record. While the entire globe is getting warmer, India has been experiencing the same. Summer-like conditions have taken away the last few days of winter charm in India.
While areas in the western and southern parts of India including Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra sizzled at 40 degrees, other parts of the country were also not left far behind.
Temperatures in Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and West Bengal also crossed the 30-degree mark. Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh have also been reeling under hot weather conditions with above average maximums.
The story doesn’t end here, Dilli ki Sardi, which lasts until February departed very soon this year. Each day, the city continues to set a new record regarding maximum temperatures. Only yesterday, Delhi recorded its maximum as 32.2°C, which is the highest of the season.
The little devil El Nino, which was active in the year 2015, has decided to stay for a while. This year too is an El Nino year, which in turn will lead to higher temperatures. The current weather conditions have already given a sneak peak of how the rest of the summer will pan out to be.
Another point to be noted is that February has not yet come to an end, and the peak summer months are yet to unfold. With the current temperature trend, heatwave conditions have already made an appearance over parts of Telangana.
The premiere of the season of ice golas, nimbu pani and sundresses has not yet unwrapped. And with the present situation, it seems like summer will surely be back with a bang and linger for a little bit longer this time.
