A rainy week lies ahead for Northeast India

In the last couple of days Northeast India has been observing almost dry weather conditions. However, isolated light rains were reported from parts of Meghalaya and Assam during this period. But now, once again the rain intensity will increase over most parts of the northeastern states as a trough is extending from Northeast Bihar up to Northeast India.

A Cyclonic Circulation has also formed in the southern part of Assam. And an Anti-Cyclone which moved to South-central Bay of Bengal has once again moved towards North Bay of Bengal due to the formation of a Depression over South Bay of Bengal. Now, due to this Anti-cyclone, moisture feed will increase over the northeastern states leading to widespread rain in entire Northeast India.

These on and off rains and thundershower activities will continue for the next four to five days as the Depression will intensify into a Cyclone and move towards northeastern states in the first week of May.

So, we can say that rain activities will continue with moderate intensity over Northeast India for over a week. During this period isolated hailstorm activities, thunder squalls and lightening strikes are also possible over the states of Meghalaya and Tripura.
