A fresh system i.e. a cyclonic circulation in north Bay of Bengal may bring heavy to very heavy rain at coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, coastal Orissa and south Chattisgarh in 24 to 48hours.
Rain may be moderate to heavy at many places, between 30 to 40mm and may cross 100mm at one or two pockets. Winds could be strong at a speed at 50 to 60kmph.
Agriculturists and environmentalists suggest that this weather may bring some good news for the Indian economy. The Kharif crop sowing area has almost double from 215.07 lakh hectares in 2012-13 to 401.69 lakh hectares this year due to good monsoon rain.
Every year during the monsoon season, 4 to 5 strong systems or deep depressions form in the Bay of Bengal which brings heavy rain along the coastal areas. As the system moves west and northwestwards, moderate to heavy rain is witnessed at Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
“We have been observing a change in the nature of these systems in the recent years. These cyclonic circulations are seen moving southwestwards, bringing rain in central India, instead of moving in the north. These change could possibily be due to a global change in the weather systems and activities”, informs Mahesh Palawat, a senior met official at Skymet Weather.
While the effects of this weather may be good for the farmers sowing paddy, it may bring some bad news for all those travelling to Orissa for the Puri RathYatra as heavy rains may cause major problems.
“This weather of heavy rain and gusty winds will continue for a day or two at coastal Andhra and Orissa and then it may gradually move inland towards Madhya Pradesh. The intensity of the system may become lesser as it travels further westwards”, adds Palawat.
Maximum temperatures in Orissa, Telangana and coastal Andhra Pradesh are expected to fall by 2 to 4 degree Celsius in the next two days.
