A strong earthquake struck Myanmar at 25 km West at Chauk, Myanmar. The earthquake is said to be measuring a 6.8 magnitude on the Richter Scale, claims the U.S. Geological Survey.
Moreover, the depth of the quake is approximately 90 km from the earth surface. Its effect is also felt in other neighboring countries including Bangladesh, Bangkok along with a few regions in India.
The quake was so massive that its tremors were felt in West Bengal, Assam, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha and northeastern states. Moreover, the metro services in Kolkata came to a standstill after tremors were felt in West Bengal.
Bangkok, which is towards the east of Myanmar also felt the quake which almost shook the office buildings in the Thai Capital for a few seconds. Moreover, the quake is reported to shook Myanmar’s biggest city of Yangon as well.
The 6.8 magnitude Richter Scale is considered to be a massive quake. Such a massive shock can damage well-built structures in turn affecting the populated regions making possibilities of massive casualties as well.
