At least five people were washed away in the tributary of Sutlej river after a cloudburst triggered flashfloods on Tuesday over Chewadi near Sunni village, around 60 km from Shimla.

Reportedly, eight people were travelling to Sunni for river rafting when gushing water from Loti river had hit the car. Though eight people managed to escape, while five could not be traced.

Rescue operations are still underway.

According to Skymet Weather, inclement weather conditions were due to the passage of Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir.

Incessant moderate to heavy rain, thunderstorm and hailstorm had lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, particularly Shimla district.

Nearly all the rivulets in the region were flooded for more than two hours.

With Western Disturbance continuing to affect the region, no relief is likely from rain and thundershowers activity during next 24 hours. Some places could also record heavy showers again on Wednesday.

Thereafter, the system will move away from the region leading to significant decrease in the rainfall. However, isolated rains will continue.
