5.3 Magnitude Earthquake jolts Indo Nepal border, tremors in Delhi, Chandigarh, Lucknow

Delhi Earthquake

An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 on the Richter scale, as reported by the USGS has hit the Nepal region. Due to this, northern parts of the country including Delhi NCR Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have also felt tremors.

Its epicenter was 25 km east northeast of Dipayal in Nepal, close to the Indo Nepal border, 300 km from Lucknow. The quake is on the lower side of the moderate earthquake.

The earthquake has not been intense enough to cause severe damage but only affects a few weak structures. Delhi and adjoining areas have only observed tremors with no damage reported from there as well.

The quake occurred at 7:01 p.m. and tremors felt over not only the national capital but also over Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad. Even the hilly state of Uttarakhand experienced the tremors.

Not only this, the adjoining cities of Lucknow, Chandigarh and many parts of North India also saw some tremors. Social Media peeps were the first to react with #Earthquake very soon trending on Twitter.
