4.5 magnitude earthquake rocks Andaman and Nicobar Islands

An earthquake gauging 4.5 on the Richter scale hit north/ northwest of Bamboo Flat in Andaman and Nicobar Islands region during the wee hours of February 13. The earthquake took place around 1:51 am and was centered at about 10 km depth in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands region. As of now, there are no reports of damage to property or life so far.

Bamboo Flat is a census town in Andaman district of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Census towns may not have a public body, but their population surpasses that of a notified local body.

Similar to this, tremors were also felt in Chennai and several other parts of Tamil Nadu on February 12 morning. This was due to the earthquake measuring 5.1 on Richter scale that had hit the Bay of Bengal.

In fact, on February 10, a mild earthquake had occurred on the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh. The earthquake was measured 5.2 on the Richter scale around 8:52 am and had a depth of 10km. No damage was reported.

The year 2019 has just begun and India has already seen a number of earthquakes, out of which most of them have occurred in the last couple of days. Most of these quakes have occurred in either Himachal Pradesh or Jammu and Kashmir region with tremors being felt in the neighboring areas.
