4.0 magnitude earthquake hits Gujarat, tremors felt in Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, Aravalli and Ambaji

Wednesday night was no less than a nightmare for the residents of Gujarat, as an earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale jolted several areas of the state. In fact, the tremors were felt in major cities such as Ahmedabad, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Aravalli and Ambaji.

‘The originated earthquake struck Palanpur, Benaskantha in Gujarat at 10:31 on Wednesday, with a latitude of 24.300 N, while a longitude of 72.711 E and depth of 3.1-Km,’, according to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR).

The social media was all flooded with the breaking news, where people from all over the state were reporting about the earthquake and the tremors that they had felt.

The state has witnessed high-intensity earthquakes in the past, with the worst being on January 26,  2011, when the state had recorded an earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale. The tremors were felt much across the Indian subcontinent, claiming 13,800 fatalities and 166,000 injuries, as per an official government report.
