At present the situation over Assam is grim as heavy floods have affected at least 18 lakh people in 22 districts of the state. Around 3,300 villages have been affected due to the relentless mar of nature.
The one-horned rhino whose home is Kaziranga national park, is 80% submerged in water. Houses in those districts are completely underwater moving to safer places via boats is the only mode of transport for the people affected by it.
Lakhimpur, Golaghat, Jorhat, Barpeta, Goalpara, Dhubri, Darrang, Morigaon, Sonitpur, Bongaigaon, Dhemaji, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Kokrajhar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Biswanath, Kamrup Metropolitan, Chirang, Nagaon, Kamrup and South Kamrup are the districts that are affected by the floods.
The weather system that is helping the flood situation to persist is a cyclonic circulation which is over Assam and adjoining areas. Light to moderate rain activity is likely to continue over the state for next 24-48 hours and thereafter the rainfall intensity will gradually decrease.
The Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh gave an aerial overlook in the districts of Nagaon, Morigaon and the Kaziranga national park.
