Incessant rains in the state of Uttar Pradesh on a continuous basis along with swollen rivers have claimed 19 lives in rain related occurrences.
A Central Water Commission report on Thursday morning said that Ganga was flowing above the normal stage to a severe flood situation at Kachhla Bridge in Badaun District, Ghazipur.
Water from river Ganga entered the homes of people in Ballia which further left them no choice than to take refuge on the rooftops of the houses. At least 15 people have died because of downpour related occurrences in various areas of the state.
The figure included three in Amethi, in Raebareli, Sonbhadra and Mirzapur and one demise each in Saharanpur, Hamirpur, Pratapgarh, Fathepur, Basti and, Ayodhya. Aside from this, four more have died in Ballia and Bhadohi.
The CWC report included that the Ganga was just below the danger mark at Garh Muketshwar in Harpur region and Fatehgarh cantonment town in Farrukhabad. Ghaghra was above the danger mark in Barabanki, Faizabad and Ballia and Siwan in Bihar.
Heavy rains battered parts of the state on Wednesday and Thursday. Mau in Uttar Pradesh saw 170 mm of rains two days ago while Safipur and Hardoi recorded 130 mm and 110 mm rains, respectively. Furestaganj had recorded 131 mm of rains
Now, despite active Monsoon conditions for the next couple of days in Uttar Pradesh, heavy rains are ruled out.
