Mumbai rains have made an unusual comeback with ,many parts of the city witnessing some rainfall activity. These rains are in view of the very severe cyclone Ockhi which after giving devastating rains over Kerala, parts of Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep Islands is recurving and moving towards Gujarat Coast.

At present, the cyclonic storm has weakened into a deep depression and is over east-central Arabian Sea 160 km west of Mumbai and 290 km south-southwest of Surat.
The system is expected to weaken further and cross the coast of Gujarat as a depression by tonight.
These rains are an unusual sight for Mumbai as the city remains almost dry during this time of the year.
During the last 9 hours, Santa Cruz has recorded 26 mm of rains and Colaba saw 54 mm of rainfall.
Schools were declared closed today in view of the persisting Cyclone but tomorrow, schools will remain open across Mumbai.
As per weathermen, Mumbai will witness some reduction in rains and only light rains will be witnessed tomorrow.

During the month of December, Mumbai usually receives only 5.3 mm of rains with less than one rainy day in the entire month.
With 50 m of rain in the past 33 hours, Mumbai has been able to break the decade old December rain record which stands at 1.5 mm witnessed in the year 2014.
With more rains in the offing, it is quite possible that Mumbai may be able to break its all time monthly rain record for the month of December.
Fishermen have been advised to not venture out in the sea as the conditions will still remain rough. Fishing activities should remain suspended for another day at least.
