10 Latest developments on Bangalore RainsBangalore rains were nowhere to be seen for quite some time. So much so that the city remained dry throughout December. However, the city has recorded heavy rains during the last 12 hours.

All thanks to Cyclone Vardah which had formed in the Southeast Bay of Bengal and made landfall near Chennai during the afternoon hours of yesterday. The system is currently lying as a depression over North Interior Tamil Nadu, around 50 km west of Tiruppattur and 40 km north of Dharmapuri.

Bangalore rains continue to wreak havoc over the city as the depression moves closer. Check out the ten latest developments on Bangalore rains:

  • During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Bangalore has recorded a whopping 60.8 mm of rainfall.
  • The monthly average of Bangalore in terms of rains during the month of December is a mere 15.7 mm of rainfall, the city has received four times the amount of rain.
  • The city has received the highest 24-hour rainfall since the last ten years. Before this, 23.8 mm of rain was received in the year 23.5 mm on December 5, 2012.
  • The all-time 24-hour rain record stands at 68 mm which was received on December 15, 1969.
  • Bangalore has received more rains than the monthly rainfall of November which is 48 mm in just 24 hours.
  • As per weathermen, moderate to heavy rains are expected to continue over the city for at least the next 12 hours.
  • Bangalore Airport has also witnessed a whopping 69 mm of rain during the last 24 hours.
  • Major chunk of rainfall was recorded during the night time. In fact, the city has been receiving heavy downpours since about 10:00 pm.
  • Rainfall intensity is expected to reduce during the next 24 hours. In fact, after 12 hours, only scattered light rainfall is expected.
  • At around 10:30 am, the temperature has been recorded at 17 degree Celsius. The humidity levels are at a 100 percent and strong winds at 50 kmph are blowing over the region.
