Ranthambore National Park is a vast wildlife reserve near the town of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan. It is a former royal hunting ground and home to tigers, leopards and marsh crocodiles. Its landmarks include the imposing 10th-century Ranthambore Fort, on a hilltop and the Ganesh Mandir temple.
It is recognized by UNESCO World Heritage Site that places it under the title ‘Hill Forts of Rajasthan’. Summer Season (March - June)
This is the hottest season of the year. The temperature can go as high as 45˚C. However, this is the best time to visit the park for wildlife activities. The grasses in the region dry up and this provides a good view during safari. In addition, animals including tigers are rarely spotted ruing this season.
Monsoon Season (July – September)
The rains make the place lush and beautiful during this season. However, the region experiences heavy rainfall, rendering travelling and sightseeing, difficult. The region will also be highly humid during this season.
Winter Season (October - March)
The place is very cool and comfortable to travel. All sightseeing spots in the city will be at prime beauty. You can find animals with their little ones in Ranthambore National Park. This is the best time to visit for spotting birds. Migration birds from other countries would be thriving in the park during this season.
Thus, the best time to visit Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore) is from October to April. This includes the entire winter season and the initial summer season. After April, the place becomes intensively hot.
Tourist places in and around Ranthambore: The Ranthambore Fort, another popular tourist attraction in Ranthambore, was built in 944 AD. The Ranthambore Fort has three temples in its premises, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, Lord Shiva and Lord Rama. Along with this, other places such as Surwal Lake, Padam Lake, Kachida Valley, Jogi Mahal, Raj Bagh Ruins and Malik Talau are the major attractions you will want to see during your visit to Ranthambore National Park.
Ranthambore can be reached by air, rail and road. The Sanganer Airport in Jaipur is the nearest airbase to Ranthambore, while Sawai Madhopur railway station is the nearest railway station to it.
