Unseasonal weather activity flogged central and eastern parts of the country for the last 3 days. Of course, the rainfall belt kept moving eastward, shifting across Vidarbha, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh to Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. Interior parts of Odisha also witnessed scattered rains. Moderate showers lashed East Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal in the past 24 hours. Prayagraj, Varanasi, Patna Gaya, Ranchi, Bokaro, Daltonganj, Purulia, Bishnupur, and Bankura received moderate rain and thundershowers. Prayagraj was the rainiest with 48mm rainfall over the last 48 hours. The activity is likely to last for one more day and cease thereafter.
Largely, the anticyclone over the Northwest Bay of Bengal has fueled moist winds and triggered these unseasonal rains. This feature is shifting closer to the coast first and largely over land later. Moisture cut-off will arrest the weather activity anytime soon, over the region. Rain and thundershowers will continue today, over East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand. These showers will also spill over to parts of Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. Tomorrow, minimal weather activity, limited to small pockets of Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Odisha is expected. Light rains are likely over Diamond Harbour, Contai, Baripada and Balasore for very short durations.
Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh and East Uttar Pradesh were the chief beneficiaries of these unseasonal rains. West Bengal also caught up with their normal rains for a day or two. However, the rains will recede very soon from the entire region. Fair weather conditions, with sufficient sunshine and pleasant temperatures, are likely from 15th Feb onward. Minimum temperatures, which had risen to high teens over the entire region will lower once again. However, the day temperatures are likely to rise and these will hover in the high twenties or low thirties for the next week or so.
