Rainy Weekend For Delhi, Mercury To Nosedive

April 12, 2024 3:30 PM |

Delhi recorded soaring temperatures over the last two days, with mercury breaching 39°C mark. Temperatures continuously rose between 06th and 10thApril, reaching the highest of the season at 39.1°C, on 10thApr.  Further rise got arrested and the maximum of 39°C was measured, yesterday.  Similar record may come up today also and thereafter drop on the weekend. Mercury may plunge to low 30’s on Sunday and rise substantially again, from Tuesday onwards.

Unlike last many years, the national capital is yet to record a temperature of 40°C.  Since 2009, Delhi  persistently scaled  >/= 40°C , with the exception of April 2012 when the highest got arrested at 38.7°C. The temperatures invariably soar during the last week of April. Last year, was an exception again when the highest temperature of 40.6°C was recorded on 17thApr 2023. In the last week of the month, the temperatures remained below normal in mid 30’s.  Yes, in April 2022, the mercury climbed to 43.5°C on three consecutive days, 28th, 29th and 30thApril.

A western disturbance has arrived over the northern hills.  Also, an induced cyclonic circulation is marked over Central Pakistan region. This will shift to West Rajasthan tomorrow and stay put there, a day later , as well.  An east-west trough from the system will run in the close proximity of Delhi.  Accumulated heat over the last couple of day, combined with the influence of trough, will trigger rain and thundershowers over and around the capital city, Delhi.  The change in the wind pattern will take place today but the weather activity will possibly commence tomorrow.

Rain and thundershowers will lash Delhi and suburbs on Saturday and Sunday. Most of the activity will happen in the evening and night.  Gusty winds and peal of thunder with lightning flashes will be frequent on Sunday.  The remnant effect of the system may continue on Monday, as well. Temperatures will take a dip to the low 30s. Coupled with the cloud cover, Delhiites will have the comfort of pleasing weather conditions on the weekend.
