As and when winter makes an appearance, we all start to wait for a white Christmas over the hilly regions of North India. While some years, tourists and residents are fortunate enough to see such a spectacle, it does not hold true for every year.
This December, there has not been any active Western Disturbance so far that may have dumped snow over the entire hilly regions. In fact, the recent system resulted in snow over the higher reaches of Pahalgam, Gulmarg, Sonmarg and adjoining areas.
However, cities of Srinagar, Manali, Mussoorie, Shimla, Nainital and adjoining areas have not seen any such weather. In fact, forget about snow, rains have also remained far away from these destinations.
Christmas is right around the Corner and many of you may have already planned for a trip to the hilly regions, hoping for some snowy magic over the holidays. However, even the upcoming system between December 24 and 27 will not be able to give snow in the mid and lower reaches and only extremely higher reaches will see such weather.
Similarly another mild system will be seen between December 26 and 28, and no rain and snow are likely over the aforementioned areas. Therefore, it is safe to say that no white Christmas is in sight for the popular hill stations of North India.
