Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and parts of Himachal Pradesh witnessed moderate rain and snowfall, providing welcome relief from the recent dry spell. This positive trend is expected to continue for another 24-48 hours, with the possibility of increased rain and snowfall activity over the Western Himalayas.
However, the reprieve for the plains might be short-lived. Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms, possibly accompanied by dust storms and isolated hailstorms, are forecast for Rajasthan, parts of Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh over the next 24 hours. Thankfully, the intensity of these weather events is expected to decrease significantly thereafter.
While the arrival of rain is a positive development, the Western Himalayas remain susceptible to landslides and mudslides due to the moderate to heavy snowfall. This is particularly concerning as the region typically experiences a decline in Western Disturbance activity by the second week of April.
This year's extended period of intense Western Disturbance is unusual, and the arrival of another such system is predicted for April 20th. This upcoming disturbance is likely to bring light to moderate rain and snowfall to the hills.Residents in both the plains and the Himalayas are advised to stay updated with the latest weather advisories and exercise caution during this period.
