Heat wave in Odisha, WB to remain intact; rain expected in northwest plains

April 1, 2014 2:40 PM |

There will be showers in Odisha post noon or in the evening, as well as in West Bengal and Jharkhand but this would not provide relief from the heat wave as day temperatures are expected to remain above normal by 4 to 6 degrees during the next two days.

According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand and adjoining areas of West Bengal would start affecting when the temperatures would reach at their peak. The moist southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal will then help convection to bring about clouds and rain.

Meanwhile northwest India is heading for cloudy and rainy days from tomorrow onwards as a cyclonic circulation over west Rajasthan will move to these parts during the next 24 hours. Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh could have rain at some places. The weather update shows that the cyclonic circulation with move northeastwards so it will not impact southern parts of northwest plains. Northern parts of northwest plains and Himalayan foothills in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will have cloudy skies and rain in this period. The weather system will move out by Thursday afternoon.

Rain is likely to continue over northeastern states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura as the moist southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal are mixing up with the dry winds coming from west direction.

Weather in South India will continue to remain dry and very hot with temperatures in late thirties. Coastal areas will be less hot but high humidity levels would make day time uncomfortable. Mixing up of northwesterly and southeasterly winds may bring some showers and clouds by the weekend but these post-noon showers would not bring day temperatures down to bring any relief from the prevailing hot weather conditions.
