Freezing Cold Wave Conditions To Return Over Plains Of North Next Week

February 1, 2024 9:04 AM | Skymet Weather Team

Cold day and cold wave conditions have nearly abated from most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Delhi. Yet, cold day conditions are still prevalent in small and isolated pockets of Haryana. The case in point is a place like Hisar, recording day temperature of 14.4°C, about 7°C below the normal and minimum temperature remaining under 10°C, and therefore observing cold day conditions. Most other parts of the region have recorded mercury levels, well within the margins of average maximum and minimum. None of the stations have recorded a minimum of under 5°C and most stations have measured day temperatures in the high teens or even low twenties, as well.

Courtesy, a trail of western disturbances, tentatively moving across the northern mountains during this week, rain and snow are likely over large parts of North India. The wet spell has already started and will go through till 05th Feb. Hills will have a continuous spell with weather activity slightly winding down on 02nd Feb. Also, 05th Feb will witness only the remnant effect across the mountain ranges. Plains of North India will have a large spread of fairly intense weather activity on 31st Jan and 01st Feb. Short breather on 02nd Feb and the fun resumes again, to last till 04th Feb. Broad clearance for the plains is expected on 05thFeb and hills with a lag of another 24 hours.

In the wake of this disturbed weather pattern, cold airmass will sweep across the plains of Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, North Rajasthan, and North Madhya Pradesh. The complete mountain ranges are likely to have a whiteout with a sheet of snow. Wind speed generally picks up in the plains in the rear of these systems. Strong winds down the slopes of snowy mountains, sliding across the sprawling meadows and farmlands of these areas will induce frigid conditions. Biting cold with an increased chill factor will lead to the return of cold wave conditions over many parts. A prolonged spell of clear weather across the plains, commencing 06th Feb will lead to a comeback of fog and chill, intensifying cold conditions over the region.
