Delhi has remained dry for the last 10 days. The rainiest winter month of February witnessed rains at the start of the month, completing the monthly quota. However, a prolonged dry spell is a little unusual and more so, when no rains are likely during the rest of the week. Of course, the dry run will soon get replaced with cloudy days, intermittent rains, spells of thunderstorms, flash of lightning and even strong gusty winds. Mercury levels will swing, yet again reviving wintry conditions, albeit on a milder note.
The day temperature has remained steady in the low twenties for the last week. The minimum temperature also has seen a gradual rise from 5.2°C on 10th Feb, doubling up to 9.6°C today morning. But, these are the normal temperatures for the month of February. Average day temperature by the end of the month climbs to 26°C and the minimum temperature also raises bar to low teens. A similar range of temperatures will be witnessed during this month in the last week of the month.
The dry spell over the national capital will be interrupted by an approaching western disturbance, reaching the Western Himalayas on 17th Feb. This weather system will be joined by an auxiliary cyclonic circulation over plains, and the combined influence will trigger yet another wet spell across the mountains and the plains of North India. Though Delhi will be rather far from the core of weather activity, the cloud bands will surround the capital and suburbs, between the 19th and 21st Feb 2024.
The minimum temperature may drop marginally over the next two days and hover around 8°C. Surface winds will pick up slightly to raise the chill factor and drop the feel-like temperature. The noticeable change will be visible from 18th Feb when the night temperatures will go beyond 10°C for the subsequent 5 days, till 21st Feb. Before the weather activity starts around 19th Feb, the day temperature is expected to reach in the mid-20s. The mercury level may breach 25°C, for the first time in this season during this week, itself. Broad clearance in the weather conditions is likely on 22nd Feb. However, in the wake of the system, as it usually happens, strong surface winds and cold winds may help revive winter flavour, till the end of the month.
