The weather in Bangladesh during the T20 cricket world cup has been a talking point right from the start of the tournament and it is again going to play a crucial role on Sunday when the Indian cricket team will lock horns with Sri Lanka in the summit clash at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur near Dhaka. According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the final match which is slated to start at 6 pm may have to encounter a thunderstorm with chances of rain during lightning.
The latest weather update explains that a trough of low (region of intensified moist winds) lies just west of Dhaka due to which moist southerly to southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal would be prevalent in the region. The extra heating during the day when temperature will be in mid thirties along with these winds could form convective clouds to cause thunderstorm and rain in Dhaka in the evening hours.
Off late, the weather in Bangladesh experiencing rain, thunderstorm, lightning and dew, has played a crucial role throughout the tournament. A period of showers the other day, when Sri Lanka played West Indies in the first semifinal eventually decided the finalist as Sri Lanka. They won the game by virtue of the Duckworth-Lewis (D/L) method.
The (D/L) method itself has been in news due to sharp criticism by the experts and followers who thinks that the method which was originally devised for the longer version of the game (50-over match) is not suitable to be applied in short format.
According to the rules in this tournament, each side should have at least five overs of game in a match. If the team batting second does not get a chance to play five overs, the match will be abandoned. For the final match on Sunday, if neither of the teams complete five overs in the second innings, the match will be played on the 7th which has been kept as a reserve day. In case they do complete five overs, decision will be based on whichever team is ahead of the other whenever the match stops.
