Storm Halts Murray-Djokovic Semi Final Clash

Storm Halts Murray-Djokovic Semi Final ClashSeems like World no.1 Novak Djokovic will have to wait a little more before securing a spot in the finals. Weather gods had something else in store for the epic semifinals between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic. After almost 3 hours of Andy Murray’s helplessness, a severe storm suspended the play being held at Roland Garros on Friday.

On Friday, Djokovic was leading 6-3, 6-3, 5-7, 3-3 against Murray and was just a few minutes away from victory when due to severe storm, the play was abandoned. Ten minutes later, the match was officially called off. The two players had been playing for more than 3 hours straight.

Only two days ago, Djokovic beat last year’s winner and owner of nine French open titles, Rafael Nadal, taking a step forwards towards his dream title.

Last year, he had advanced into the finals but was beaten by the French Open master, Rafael Nadal. After beating Murray in the semis, and Stan Wawrinka in the finals, Djokovic will become the eighth man in the tennis history to win at least one trophy from all the four grand slams.

The play will resume 1:00 pm local time, 4:30 pm (IST) and the results will decide the fate of the players. This is not the first time that weather has affected play at the French Open 2015. On Tuesday, Men’s quarter-final between Wilfred Tsonga and Kei Nishkori had to be halted due to extremely windy conditions.
