IND vs SA: Rain in Cape Town may disrupt third day of 1st test match

Updated on Jan 8, 2018: Yesterday was a rainy affair for the city of Cape Town and both the Indian as well as the South African Cricket Team had been waiting for the showers to take a break so that the game could begin somehow. However, rain gods refused to cause any significant break which is why the game was called off yesterday.

Meanwhile, as far as the weather forecast for today, i.e., day 4 is concerned, rains have finally taken a backseat and we can expect a full game ahead. However, today, the baton will be handed to the Indian bowlers who have to deliver their best so that the South African batting line collapses as soon as possible.

With rain on the third day, South Africa has still not won the entire battle and India still has scope to win this one. Around 196 overs are still left and it all depends on how either of the teams perform so that a result is seen tomorrow. A thrilling climax is  quite likely on the cards.

Published on Jan 7, 2018: The year 2018 has begun on quite an exciting note for Cricket enthusiasts. In the first week itself, an exciting almost two-month India’s tour of South Africa began wherein the teams will play three test matches, six ODIs and three T20s.

The first test match began on January 5 in Cape Town and Indian fans are not a happy lot. While South Africa scored a 286-run score in the first innings, India in its response collapsed at a mere 209 runs. The second innings have also not been too bad for South Africa where the team has scored 65 runs with the fall of two wickets.

The third day will be a test for the Indians as South Africa’s 140 run lead will only create problems for them. The Indian bowlers will have to pep up so that they are able to save the game. Meanwhile, rain gods have a different plan here.

Trough of low pressure area is extending from Botswana to coastal parts of Western Cape. Simultaneously, ridge of high pressure is extending from Atlantic Ocean to coastal parts of Western Cape. Hence, moist winds will blow from westerly direction due to which light rain is expected over the city of Cape Town today and tomorrow.

These rains will be of short duration and will occur during the afternoon hours. The highest humidity level will remain around 90 percent. Maximum temperatures will remain around 25 degrees Celsius while minimums will settle around 14-15 degrees.

Humid conditions will prevail throughout the day. In fact, the city of Cape Town has been witnessing rains at present as well. While these rains will stop in an hour or so, and the game is likely to begin on time, some disruption in between due to these rains is highly likely.

Thus, the third day as well as the fourth day of the first test of India vs South Africa may be affected for smaller time frames. Washout is not likely as rains will remain light in nature and will not be intense enough.
