IND vs ENG, Chennai test may get affected by rain today
Chennai rains occurred last night with the city recording traces of rain. Areas including Guindy and Anna Nagar witnessed a few sharp spells last night. However, rains did not affect the Chepauk Stadium and the fifth test match between India and England which was scheduled today has begun.
The massive rains from Cyclone Vardah has not affected the outfield. At present, weather conditions are sunny and the skies are clear. However, during the late afternoon or evening hours, light rainfall is expected in pockets of Chennai.
Thus, there is a possibility that there may be a short interruption in the game on account of Chennai rains. However, the rains are not likely to last for a long time, and play will go as scheduled during the first half. The second half may be slightly affected due to light Chennai rains.
Tomorrow, weather conditions are expected to remain clear throughout the day and the game is expected to go on smoothly without any weather interruption.
Since last weekend, Chennai rains have revived and been wreaking havoc over the residents of the city. So much so that the city received heavy rains during this period. In fact, the city recorded three digit rains during a span of a mere three hours.
More than a dozen lives were lost and loss to crop and property has also been recorded. These conditions were attributed to Cyclone Vardah which made a direct landfall close to Chennai.
However, now the weather conditions have improved and Chennai is limping its way back to normalcy. Schools have been reopened and daily life has once again come back on track.
In fact, the Indian Cricket Team is scheduled to play its fifth match in Chennai tomorrow, i.e. on December 16 against England. The five day match will end on December 20 and both the teams along with the fans are hoping that there won’t be interruptions in terms of weather.
While the first day is expected to witness some showers early in the morning, the weather will clear up thereafter and the match will be played. However, the possibility of delay due to wet outfield cannot be ruled out.
The second and the third day, i.e. on December 17 and 18, sky conditions will be clear with no interruption in play. However, the possibility of one or two short spells of rain cannot be ruled out on the fourth and the fifth day. Thus, there may be some effect on the match on the aforementioned days on account of rain.
These weather conditions will be attributed to a fresh weather system which has formed in the Bay of Bengal. The system is currently a trough and may become a cyclonic circulation soon.
As far as the India vs England Test series is concerned, Virat Kohli and his boys are already leading the series 3-0, and a draw which means the home team has won the series before even playing the last match. We will have to wait and watch if Alastair Cook and his men can make a comeback this time.
