Ind vs Aus, Perth ODI: Promising weather for series opener

January 11, 2016 4:43 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The first one-day international between India and Australia is scheduled to be played at the WACA in Perth on January 12, Tuesday. Perth ODI starts at 8:50 am IST. Team India is set to play a 5-match ODI series with the reigning world champions. This will be followed by a 3-match T20I contest.

Mainly cloudy conditions are expected in Perth at the start of play. Very little to no rain is expected here in the morning. Other than that, no precipitation is expected during the rest of the day. Day temperature is likely to settle in the mid-20s while minimums will settle close to 20.

Light to moderate winds of about 15 to 25 kmph will continue to blow over the region. Humidity will settle close to 70% in the morning, but is likely to come down to the 50s as the day progresses.

Coming back to cricket per se, both teams look very competitive on paper. A few experienced customers will join a young and steaming brand of cricket. Australia will surely have the upper hand as they’re playing in home conditions. However, two impressive wins in the practice games will bring some much needed confidence in the Indian camp.

The WACA pitch is known for its pace and bounce. Thus, it won’t be surprising to see a pace-friendly bowling attack from both sides. But recent events indicate that the WACA surface does pack something for the slow-ball bowlers who are accurate and persistent.

It will be interesting to see whether India's rookie pacer Barinder Sran will make his debut on foreign soil. Sran performed well in the practice game against Western Australia and might prove to be useful at the WACA. Meanwhile, the tricky spin duo of Ashwin and Jadeja, is also likely to be a part of the playing eleven. As for Australia, two debutantes (Paris and Boland) wait for a chance to represent their country as other stalwarts will try to use experience and skill to go one-up in the series opener.

We will keep you updated on cricket, weather, and more as the much awaited India vs Australia ODI series takes off.
