Updated on Sep 17, 2017 07:00 PM: After MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya's terrific performance in the first innings, India finished at a more than respectable score of 281. However, just a few minutes before the beginning of the Aussie innings, Chennai rains took over as reiterated by Skymet Weather.
After much wait, rains finally took a backseat and the covers were removed. In fact, the Indian Team also were on the field waiting for the match to resume. However, Chennai rains once again put on a show and the covers have been put. The umpires are hoping for the rains to go in hiding so that a match in a D/L method can at least be played and no washout occurs.
As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, light drizzle is expected to continue over the city of Chennai for at least some more time. Thus, fans will have to wait for at least a bit to see a good game.

The first ODI match will be played in Chennai on September 17, at the MA Chidambaram stadium from 1.30 pm onwards. As per Skymet Weather, it is anticipated that Chennai is expected to witness light rain and thundershower activities during the next two days.

The rains will be attributed to the trough which is extending from southwest Bay of Bengal up to North Tamil Nadu at sea level and an upper air trough which is extending from North Bay of Bengal up to north coastal Tamil Nadu.
These light showers may interrupt the game during afternoon and evening hours but not for a long duration. As per Skymet’s expert, southwesterly and southerly winds will blow over Chennai during evening hours, these moist winds will favor the bowlers during that time. Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Dhoni have played extremely well in the series against Sri-Lanka and hence these are they are the key batsman to look up in this series as well.
