New Delhi, Wednesday, 15 Aug, Heavy rain at one or two places over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan is expected in the next twenty four hours, Heavy showers would continue over these places while rainfall would subdue over Rajasthan after the next twenty four hours.
Rainfall is expected to increase over Jammu & Kashmir as the monsoon trough is shifting northward. The monsoon trough is passing through Anupgarh in Rajasthan, Narnaul in Haryana, Hardoi and Ballia in Uttar Pradesh, Patna in Bihar to Shantiniketan & Kolkata in West Bengal and thence southeastwards to eastcentral Bay of Bengal. Monsoon trough is essentially a region of intensified monsoon winds.
Showers are likely to continue overPunjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan during the next twenty four hours, Light to moderate rain is expected over these regions. Rain is predicted to reduce over Rajasthan after next twenty four hours as the low pressure area over east Rajasthan and adjoining area has merged with the monsoon trough. However, rain would increase over east Uttar Pradesh and adjoiningBiharafter the next twenty four hours.
A low pressure area is likely to develop over the northwestBay of Bengalthat would lead to increase rainfall activity over coastal Orissa and Andhra Pradesh after the next twenty four to forty eight hours. They would also increase over centralIndiaover the next forty eight to seventy two hours.
The southwesterly winds are reaching up to eastIndiaand Gangetic West Bengal. They are picking up moisture from the Bay of Bengal to push them into the foothills of theHimalayas. Rain, heavy at one or two places over Assam and Meghalaya while moderate over the sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim is expected in the next twenty four hours
Along the west coast, the seasonal offshore trough is feeble. The trough is extending from Konkan to Kerala coast. Light intensity rain would continue over coastal areas of Konkan,Goaand Kerala. Rain at one or two places could be moderate to heavy over this region during the next twenty four hours.
In the south, Coastal north Tamil Nadu will receive light rain in the next twenty four hours as the moist southwesterly winds are penetrating from the west coast with a tilt and reaching up to north coastal Tamil Nadu.
