Keep your hair straight in humid weather

If you stay in Mumbai, Chennai, Goa, Orissa, or just anywhere near the coast, there can be nothing more annoying than to struggle for hours to style hair strands before stepping out in an uneasy humid weather so it doesn’t go up in tangles! Indeed, apparently there are no remedies for the effect of humidity, but you can still experiment with several tricks that might protect your polished hairstyle's long-lasting effect. Minimizing the unpleasant impact of humidity can be done, by choosing the perfect haircut, hair styling products and techniques that have the power to keep the harmful agents away from your follicles. Here are some useful professional tricks on how to keep hair straight in humidity..

Layers

Layered haircuts are specially designed to both jazz up a plain hairdo and also to help you maintain the strands’ super-sleek look during humid weather. As hair stylists claim it is essential to banish the flat look of your tresses with a blunt cut. The uneven levels will efficiently keep the flexibility and polished shape of your hair. The chances that your hair stays sleek in rainy weather increase according to the number of layers. This hairstyle is highly recommended to those who struggle with extremely fine hair that can lose its shape immediately after getting in contact with humidity.

Hairspray

Hairsprays are not all bad. They will be your best allies when it comes to humid weather. Indeed, it is a must have accessory of the hairdo especially when your are looking for the long-lasting refined effect. There's only one ritual you should include in your hair styling routine, and that is to keep your strands sleek. First of all, separate the strands into four sections. Then, apply a rich amount of mousse on the tresses for the vital hold. Now, use a flat iron to straighten your hair, go on with the next sections when you completely finished one. After the hair is perfectly ironed, fix the flying strands with hairspray. Make sure you use the necessary amount for a stunning effect. Then again blow-dry your hair until you've eliminated the humid effect of the hairspray, downward as a golden rule.

Serum

Hair expert, Neena Pillai says, “It has been proven that gels can do our hair a great favor when it comes to creating a defensive shield from humidity.” This product has the ability to weigh down the strands which is just perfect in case of humid weather. Hair styling industries, in the recent past have come up with anti-frizz products and gels which can be easily purchased from every store and should become a must have item of your hair care kit during the humid season. It is important however not to exaggerate the use of this product. There's no need to literally paste the hair with it. Instead, just apply it on wet hair and the hair follicles will absorb the necessary nutrients that will prevent the hair from becoming frizzy. Blows dry the tresses and make sure that they are completely dry when you step out of the house. Choose the best type of gel designed for your hair texture.

Stable temperatures in Delhi to continue; rain, snowfall ahead for J&K, HP, Uttarakhand

Temperatures in Delhi are likely to remain stable during the next two days. Rain will continue in Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand during the next 24 hours. Showers are also expected in west Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, Marathwada and south Karnataka in the central and Peninsular India. Northeast will continue to get rain along with sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim during the next 48 hours.

Day Temperatures in Delhi are above normal and they would remain stable between 32 and 35 degrees during the next two to three days. In coming days, sky will be partly cloudy in Delhi that will not let out the heat from the atmosphere and will keep the day temperatures above normal (29.2ºC). Frequent invasion by the Western Disturbances in north India this year have brought clouds at regular intervals and kept the heat trapped within the atmosphere. Delhi may experience thunderstorms on 23rd of March.

Northerly to northeasterly winds will keep night temperatures in Delhi stable as they will not let the warmer winds dominate the region during the next two days and thereafter as well. Night temperatures may rise by 2 degrees during the approach of Western Disturbance but as and when it leaves, cool winds will again bring temperatures down by the same degree.

Weather in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will have rain and snow in coming days. Rain would be observed at one or two places in Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand during the next 24 hours. A Western Disturbance lies over Jammu & Kashmir and will move away eastwards in the next 24 hours.

Intensity of rain and snow will increase thereafter and they would spread to larger areas of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 22nd to 24th of March. A strong Western Disturbance is expected over Jammu & Kashmir from 23rd of March onwards.

Showers are also expected in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Telangana, south interior Karnataka during the next 24 hours as a low pressure area runs from east Rajasthan to south interior Karnataka across central India.

In eastern and northeastern India a low pressure area that runs from Arunachal Pradesh to the Bay of Bengal persists. Southwesterly moist winds from the Bay of Bengal are reaching the northeastern states along this low pressure area and then blowing as easterly winds to bring rain in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Rain would be observed at a few places in these regions during the next two days.

Do you have summer pens

It’s nearly the start of the summer:  daylight stretches into the late hours, the afternoon breeze brings crisp air. These are the evenings to prop up a good writing chair on the balcony. If you are into business, new clients will want summer promotions, or use the renewed season to think about new branding opportunities which means more hours on-the-move, more meetings in scrunched little cafes or conference rooms. Does this spark an idea?

Well a summer pen can be a personal tradition which has a simple set of requirements. Any pen hoping to be a summer pen needs to travel well, has a little flair, can write admirably for long meetings and won’t suddenly beg for ink in the middle of a thought. Summer pens fulfill a specific purpose. They are meant to facilitate adventure, and to be themselves a tad adventurous since summer is also travelling time.

Consider what you will be doing this summer. Will you be traveling for work? Will you be spending more time out-of-doors, or be in a new environment with limited access to supplies we take for granted? Are you craving to write a summer novel, or finish a memoir? Any of these occasions would be a great reason to get a summer pen. You will be amazed at how a specific writing tool can help unlock tricky projects.

Sober pens are usual and boring bunch with formal lines, traditional silhouettes, heavy black-and-golds trims. Most of these beauties, sadly, are ink-guzzlers.  It has to be a robust pen that could stand up to the heat and the dry conditions.

1)  The Fisher Bullet ball pen, available at pen stores and online shopping websites like Flipkart, is a good price for those who will be outdoors or traveling under some pretty restrictive conditions. Do note that if you’re going to be indoors (and not in zero-G), you could pick a pen at random from a pen catalogue and choose a better writer than Fisher. Though not so easily available in lime color but if you get extremely lucky and manage to grab one somehow, your task for the summer to touch up a manuscript will be done by this cheery colorful pen.

2)  The Namiki Prera has a fairly standard pen silhouette, with an easy-to-hold barrel. It is easy to hold for long periods of time. It is available in a range of colors and nib sizes.  Namiki uses Japanese nib sizes. Thus its fine nib is thinner than many European extra-fine nibs. If you write small then these thin nibs are godsent for you! This pen is excellent for deskwork on a warm and lazy summer day. Don’t expect to traipse through the countryside with the Prera unless you have a lot of cartridges on hand. But at a desk, this pen is a wonder.

3)  This summer, if you plan to purchase a pen that takes into account all of the sketching, drawing, or layout.. Go for reliable ballpoints. If you love pens and they are no less than a treasure or an investment for you then you might not mind spending a fortune on the Caran d’Ache ballpoint series. Caran d’Ache is one of the few pen brands thats perfect for a style statement. Styled like a pencil, this pen would be equally at home or on the drafting or sketching table. Who doesn’t love bright colors for the summer—especially when they signify cool and relaxed times—so for the bright summer, you may fancy this pen in orange.

Needless to say, you could just get a tablet for yourself but hey old school is old school. This might not have been a list of pens that are the best for you and your writing needs since everyone has individual requirements. So choose a pen that suits you the best!

Eye care in summers

Summer would soon be in its full glory and the rising temperatures would once again bring with them a plethora of summer ailments and allergies. For proper eye care in summers watch out for excessive sunlight, chlorine in swimming pools, contaminated water, dust and pollution. Allergies are by far the most common summer eye problem and are usually secondary to pollen, dust, wind and air pollutants and can vary from mild itching and redness of the eyes to severe watering and swelling of eyelids. Also take care of eyes from the most common infections that are seen with increased frequency in summers, like styes, viral conjunctivitis. Doctors say, unprotected exposure to the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays can even increase the risk of developing cataract and damage to the retina. Here are simple things you can do to take care of your beautiful eyes..

1) If you wear UV protective contact lenses, you still need to wear a pair of sunglasses to protect the area of the eye including eyelashes that is not covered by the lens.

2) Look for sunglasses that offer good protection. Sunglasses should block out 99 to 100 per cent of both UVA and UVB radiation and screen out 75 to 90 per cent of visible light. Avoid buying local inexpensive shades that do not actually protect eyes.

3) Not many know that gray-colored lenses reduce light intensity without altering the color of objects, providing the most natural color vision.

4) Drink plenty of water throughout the day; it protects your eyes from puffiness and swelling.

5) While you are traveling, outdoor activities like camping may include chopping wood or cooking around a campfire. Use clear protective glasses. All too often flying embers can lead to severe eye burns.

6) When in a pool, do not forget your goggles. In summer, the incidence of skin infection in swimming pools rises and most pools increase the amount of chlorine or other chemicals to keep the water safe. This, however, leads to irritable eyes.

7) It is not only the skin that dries out in summer, eyes do too. Lubricating drops are ideal to avoid this. A slice of cucumber or potato does the trick for tired eyes.

8 ) Conjunctivitis is very common in summer, and its symptoms include redness of eyes, a pricking sensation, discharge and watery eyes. Immediately visit an eye specialist to avoid it from spreading further into the family.

9) Maintain good eye hygiene with repeated eye washing with clean and fresh water.

Crops worth Rs. 893.93 crores lost in MP

Further details are emerging in the damages caused by the hailstorm on 16th of March in Madhya Pradesh. According to a survey conducted by state revenue department of Madhya Pradesh government, crops in about 2,44,615 hectares of land in 3,190 villages of 31 districts were affected by rain, thunder-squalls and hailstorms that occurred between 14th to 16th of March.

Survey reveals that at least 32 people and 294 livestock died in these hailstorms that occurred in five districts – Vidisha, Shajapur, Seoni, Guna and Rajgarh. Vidisha that was most affected by the hailstom lost Rs. 302 crores of crops. Rajgarh lost Rs 213.61 crores. Seoni Rs 68.16 crores, Guna Rs. 46.01 crores of rabi crops, mainly wheat and grams.

These areas were experiencing a cyclonic circulation that prevailed here from 14th to 16th March as they received heavy rain, thunder-squalls and hailstorms. Vidisha is also known for the production of one of the best quality wheat grains in the country.

Weather in January in India causes 1000 crore loss

Rain, snowfall, hailstorm, fog and cold wave during January this year caused a loss of rupees 1000 cr in the country. A report released by Impact Forecasting, the catastrophe model development center at Aon Benfield revealed that 329 people died due to cold wave in India, Bangladesh and Nepal collectively during the winter weather in January.

The Global Catastrophe Recap report also cites weather events in other parts of the world that caused damage/loss to life and property. China was hit by three such weather and natural disaster events including an earthquake, severe cold conditions and drought that caused $732 million-plus loss during the months of January and February

The US was affected by four separate powerful winter storms during February. While the damage was widespread, economic losses across the affected US states were within the expected range for events of this magnitude, and in some cases, insured losses were actually lower than might have been expected.

The report further states that floods were prevalent across portions of South America, Asia and Europe during January. Peru and Bolivia where seasonal rains killed at least 54 people and damaged or destroyed nearly 22,000 homes, were among the hardest-hit.

Warm days in Delhi to continue; rain likely in J&K, MP, Vidarbha and northeast

Day temperatures in Delhi and that of northwest India jumped above normal by 2 to 7 degrees in the hills and plains of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan during the last two days. There could be a fall in these temperatures during the next two to three days but they would remain above normal and most of these places would observe warm days during the period.

Fall in night temperatures is expected during the next 24 hours in north and northwest parts as the exit of Western Disturbance will bring more cool winds from north and northwest. Another Western Disturbance that is being claimed as a stronger one would shoot up night temperatures again after the next 24 to 48 hours.

Light rain may occur in Jammu & Kashmir during the next two days. Widespread rain in the plains and snowfall in the hills is expected from 22nd of March in Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. One or two places could even receive heavy rain during the weekend. Partly cloudy to cloudy sky will have its impact on day temperatures in the hills where they could fall by up to 5 degrees.

A trough of low pressure area running from east Rajasthan to south interior Karnataka across west Madhya Pradesh with a cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha bodes well for these regions in terms of rain. Rain would occur at one or two places in west Madhya Pradesh, Marathwada, Vidarbha and adjoining areas of Telangana and south interior Karnataka during the next 24 hours.

In northeast, a north-south trough (a region of intensified moist winds) of low pressure area runs from Arunachal Pradesh to the Bay of Bengal. This will continue to give showers at one or two places during the 24 hours. In the east, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will also have rainfall. Rain would increase in these regions as another cyclonic circulation is heading towards them after the next 24 hours.

How to use laptop in hot weather

It’s a lazy day and you’ve bunked work.. so you are out of bed late and went straight to the balcony with a cup of coffee with your laptop in hand. But don’t forget, despite the lovely scenery or nice view outside, your laptop might not be able to last long out there. And if you couldn't stand the heat, just imagine how your laptop must have felt. Did you ever wonder about your laptop safety in warm weather? Well, here are a few tips you must consider while working in the sun and humidity and storing your laptop inside warm cars..

1) Safe temperature for your lappi- Most laptops are good to go in temperatures of 10°C to 35°C. Anything warmer than this is inviting trouble. Laptop batteries are notoriously non-heat-friendly and can make your battery life suffer, making the components of your delicate hard drive expand, sometimes even causing a hard drive failure.

2) Let it adjust- Don't walk and work with your laptop open. If you are moving from an A/C room to sweltering heat, or simply from outside to indoors, shut the laptop down. Let it adjust to the new a temperature before starting it up again. Condensation can build up inside your machine which can spoil your expensive laptop.

3) Keep it safe in a hot car- Treat your machine like a baby and don't ever leave it in a warm car on a scorching summer day or it could damage the machine terribly. If ever, make sure your car is under a shade or your laptop is in its laptop bag, properly covered and protected from the heat. Direct sunlight or sun exposure can damage the screen of the laptop. Either way, it's better to be safe (and cool!) than sorry. But if you have to work in direct sun, attach an anti-glare screen cover.

4) Beware of high humidity- Be weather wise and check the weather reports for humidity. Anything above 80 percent should make you cautious, although your device may have its own humidity specifications. Really humid weather can escalate that condensation effect, shorting out your circuits. But even if it doesn't do damage, excess moisture in and around your machine can trigger the built-in water damage sensor, sometimes voiding your warranty.

5) Use a heat-dissipating laptop stand- You know how warm your laptop can get in your lap on the sofa, so be careful of where you set it outdoors. At the very least, use a laptop pad or stand. We suggest you grab a self-cooling stand, like the ones from Belkin. These are easily available at stores for just about Rs. 1100.

Warmer nights in Delhi; snow forecast in Jammu & Kashmir

Weather in Delhi will have above normal (15.3 degree) night temperatures in the coming days. Snowfall is expected to increase in Jammu & Kashmir this weekend. Snowfall, heavy at one or two places in the hills and light to moderate at isolated places in the plains including Srinagar is expected to continue from 22nd  to 24th of March. Rain is likely to continue in northeastern parts during the next 48 hours. Rain could also occur at one or two places in Kerala.

Night will be warmer by 2 to 3 degrees in Delhi in coming days as two back-to-back Western Disturbances will affect the weather in Delhi during the next few days. However, the day temperatures would keep increasing but will not have much affect in terms of warmth as winds will be cool after the exit of Western Disturbances.

A feeble Western Disturbance will affect the north and northwest region on 20th and 21st of March. There could be light to moderate snowfall in the hills of Jammu & Kashmir on these days but the weather will again intensify in the hills from 22nd or 23rd of March as they will experience a strong Western Disturbance. From Friday to Sunday there is strong possibility of heavy snowfall at one or two places in the hills while light to moderate snow could occur at isolated places in the plains including the capital Srinagar.

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim in the east and the entire northeast India have chances of rain during the next two days. A north-south trough of low pressure area (a region of intensified moist winds) runs from north Bay of Bengal to Himalayan hills in the region.

In south India, Kerala could get rain at one or two places. Lakshadweep Islands in the Arabian Sea and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Bay of Bengal will have showers to the tourist’s delight. A low pressure area persisting in southeast Arabian Sea is moving away westward.
