Three day mourning declared after 6.1 earthquake hits Iran

At least 37 have been reported killed and 850 injured after an earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale hit southeast of Bushehr near Persian Gulf in Iran and home to Iran’s first nuclear power plant.

The earthquake was centered about 100 kilometers (63 miles) southeast of the plant, the U.S. Geological Survey said. Dozens of aftershocks were reported by the official IRNA news agency since the earthquake, that occurred at around 5:30 pm IST.

Another earthquake of 5.6 magnitude was reported later on Wednesday around 7:28 am in the same area. In 2003 about 26,000 people were killed by a 6.6 magnitude quake that flattened the historic south-eastern city of Bam.

Look slimmer this summer with these simple fashion tips

We've all been there, a couple of months before our summer holidays we vow to drop those extra kilos but sadly, fail repeatedly. Well, it’s obvious that the best way to look great is to lose extra weight but no point getting stressed out in trying to manage both hectic work hours and gym schedules if it is really that hard for you. It’s time to be street smart and dress differently to look slimmer and compromising less on your favorite meals. Here are some suits for women to help you look slimmer this summer.

No black – Yes we know everyone has always advised you to wear black to look slimmer but it’s the heat of summers and it will be uncomfortably hot for you. Plus you will look drab, frumpy and incredibly boring! Apart from black, go for block colours, such as all but not baby pink or lilac, unless you're looking for an immature appearance.

Shorts - Most summer holidays are very hot, so ideally most people go for cool clothes such as spaghetti tops and shorts, but if in your case it will make you look bigger go for light colored clothes to keep you cool, short loose sleeves instead of strappy ones, and instead of short shorts go for knee-length shorts. Hemlines automatically draw attention to themselves by creating a visual line of contrast. For a more slimming look, lengthen or shorten sleeves, shorts and skirts below or above the widest part of the arm or leg.

Fitting – So every time you go to a mall for shopping, everything you pick up is either too tight or too lose.. Clothing that is too small will emphasize your body shape, making you look bigger; While clothing that is too big adds bulk and makes the wearer look frumpy. If fit is a challenge, have clothing altered for a better fit. It will instantly make you look slimmer. Visit your old tailor who you forgot after the shopping malls came up. Get your clothes fitted and if required even stitched.

Fabrics - Shiny fabrics, light and bright colours reflect light making the area appear bigger. When worn on your better half, they create the illusion of a more balanced upper and lower body. If you don’t know what fabric to choose, go for the evergreen cotton that is everyone’s favorite.

Waist or tummy fat - To look slimmer around the middle choose monochromatic colours or similar tones for top and bottom. Use contrast or details close to the face to draw attention away from the waist.  When in doubt, cinch your waistline with a belt. Definition at the waist is always slimming. If you’re heavier around the mid-section, pair a fun blousy top with a white jeans.

Prints - A low contrast print with a darker background or a non-descriptive pattern with no background can fool the eye, camouflaging the area. When working with prints, keep the overall effect in mind for better balance. Vertical stripes are always slimming, so try it with a striped dress or top. The color blocking trend works wonders and can make you look super slim when you put dark colors on bottom and light on top.

Heels - Invest in a great pair of wedges, which will add height and make your legs appear longer. Longer shorts with nude wedge heels, gives you the illusion of having longer legs, which is so slimming.

In the end, these aren’t the rules for looking slim! Feel comfortable in your own skin. This means that you should ignore what other people may think of you and just enjoy your holiday!

Summer dental health

No homework, visits to the beach, picnics and going to camp. Relax and laze! That’s what the summer is all about. This time of year you’re often reminded to take care of your skin from sun damage with sunblock, protect your eyes by wearing sunglasses, and staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.  But what you may not have heard is that summer is also a time to take precautions with your dental health. So let's talk about a few ways to keep you and your family's dental health on track this summer.

1)  Sugary summer drinks and ice creams- It's a hot summer day. And one of the first things you think of is a nice cold shake, an energy drink, ice cream, smoothies, chocolate treats, lime soda etc. But sugary drinks are hardly ever sweet to your teeth. It all comes down to plaque. As it feeds on the sugar, it makes an acid. This acid eats away at our tooth enamel and weak enamel is subject to cavities. What's more, plaque creates toxins, or poisons, that attack our gums and the bone that holds our teeth. So if you do have these drinks, then rinse your mouth with water afterward. Rinsing with water right after drinking a soda cuts the acid's strength in half. Also, if you have the drink with a meal, your saliva can help "level out" the acids.

2)  Too many meals - Limit in between snacks.  Each time you eat, acid is produced in your mouth that helps to feed the bacteria that causes cavities. It’s better to eat a pack of chips or cookies all at once instead of having a few cookies every hour.

3)  Fruits - Think fruits and vegetables! This is one of the best things about summer. There’s nothing better than a fresh cucumber or a fresh orange and pomegranate salad. Or make your own refreshing smoothies at home with watermelon and grapes.

4)  Swimming pools - If you go for swimming classes every week chances are that your teeth are exposed long enough (more than 6 hours) to these chemicals that you may develop a brownish stain on your teeth.  The staining can be removed with professional dental cleaning and will not cause any further damage. There’s also some concern that if the pool’s pH level is not properly maintained that it can become acidic and soften your tooth enamel making it more prone to tooth decay. In such cases, be sure to check with your dentist about fighting dental erosion with fluoride.

5)  Whitening tricks - Choose your clothing wisely if you feel your teeth are more off-color than you’d like.  Bright white shirts can draw attention to a lesser shade of white in your teeth. Lip color can also enhance or exaggerate the color of your teeth.  To make yellow teeth appear whiter, avoid coral and peach colors but choose a lipstick or lipgloss with a pink undertone.

Rain with hail damages Maize crop in AP

Unseasonal rain in Andhra Pradesh during the last 48 hours has caused damage to maize crop in about 1703 hectares and more of the crop could be damaged as there are chances of further rain with hail in interiors of Andhra Pradesh including capital Hyderabad. Maize in the state is at grain maturation to harvesting stage and prevailing weather conditions are favourable for incidence of pink shoot borer.

The areas where crop damages have taken place are witnessing rain with strong winds for the last few days as a low pressure area has been persisting in central Peninsular region since the last week. The low pressure area currently runs from west Madhya Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu.

Weather in these parts have shown extreme hot conditions in places like Ramagundam and Nizamabad where temperatures have risen to 40 degrees but eastern parts of the state that are closer to the coast are witnessing below normal temperatures. Weather in Hyderabad will have rain with hail and conditions will be uneasy due to above normal temperatures and high humidity levels.
