Skymet weather

Weather forecast for the week in India 15th- 21st April

North and Northwest India
The week starts with some clouds gaining ground to stay till Wednesday in north and northwest India. There are chances of rain in these regions both at the start of the week as well as towards the end. Temperatures are expected to see a gradual rise till Saturday to drop Sunday onwards.

Two feeble Western Disturbances are expected to affect the regions during the week. One is expected to come into effect from tomorrow onwards. It has its wing's spread as a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan.

Both the Western Disturbance and the cyclonic circulation will move in tandem towards east-northeastwards thus bringing in rain with dust storms in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and west Uttar Pradesh mainly on Tuesday.

By Wednesday, the weather system will move on. Temperatures in Delhi could again shoot up to 39 degrees by Saturday as gradual rise is expected but Sunday will see a temporary fall in temperature.

Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have more chances of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday as at these places the weather system (WD) will be more influential. The weather will turn dry thereafter and rain will only return when the weekend approaches i.e. by Friday and Saturday.

East and Northeast India
The low pressure area that runs from Assam to central India in a northeast direction would continue to prevail throughout the week so the rain would continue over sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura. In fact these parts would have more rain compared to north and northwestern parts as well as other regions of the country.

Central India
Rain is expected in central India on Friday as a trough of low pressure area is expected to form from Rajasthan to Vidarbha region in central India. Showers would be light and would fade away in a day till Saturday. The weather will be dry and rise in temperatures will be witnessed till Friday. Some parts may even record day temperatures way above 40 degrees. But rain and clouds would drop these temperatures during the weekend.

South India
Rain will continue to occur at one or two places in south Peninsula over Kerala, south interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The wind discontinuity or the low pressure area that formed due to confluence of southwesterly to westerly winds from the Arabian Sea and easterly to southeasterly winds from the Arabian Sea will continue to prevail throughout the week.

Rain in Delhi likely tomorrow; rain continues in northeast

The capital city New Delhi is expected to see rain tomorrow on the 16th of April. There will be light showers with thunder and dust storms at one or two places by tomorrow evening. Day temperatures in Delhi will rise by one or two degrees during the next two days.

Wind conditions in Delhi would be southeasterly as a Western Disturbance is expected over Jammu & Kashmir by tomorrow that’ll have a cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan. The weather system (WD) will move east-northeastwards to affect the plains of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and west Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours.

There would be some clouds in Delhi that can restrict the heat from exiting the atmosphere increasing the day temperatures in next couple of days. Day temperatures would drop in the hills of north India as there will be cloudy weather during the next two days. The plains of northwest India will see a rise in day temperatures during the next two days.

Rain at one or two places in West Bengal, Jharkhand, Orissa and Chhattisgarh and at some places in northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura would continue during the next two days. The weather is being brought up by the low pressure area that persists from Assam to Vidarbha across West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

Winds along the upper parts of east coast are southwesterly and they’re reaching up to eastern Himalayan region across West Bengal and Orissa.  Bihar and east Uttar Pradesh would receive northwesterly winds.

The winds discontinuity in Peninsular region where westerly winds from the Arabian Sea and easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal continue to meet, maintain the chances of rain at one or two places during the next two days.

Possibilities of thunderstorms along with squalls are high in the country at the moment as constant heating and then sudden drop in temperatures are facilitating vertical movements of cool and warm winds that result in thunder-squalls. Thunder-squalls could be observed at many places in the country including the capital New Delhi in the next two days.

IPL WEATHER CHENNAI, 15th of April

CHENNAI SUPERKINGS VS PUNE WARRIORS
MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai
Match starts at 8pm

Humidity level in Chennai, along the east coast, will remain in mid-eighties during the T20 cricket tie between men in yellow, Chennai Superkings, and Pune Warriors India at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk in ongoing IPL 2013. In fact, as the sun sets around 6:22 pm and southeasterly winds change into southerly, the humidity level in 70s would start increasing to reach 85% plus by the time the match is over.

A temperature around 30 degrees during the match with high humidity level would test the best of nerves of players from both sides. Chennai, the side familiar with the weather of Chennai would be more comfortable than their counterpart Pune, that is some 167 km away from the coast and is not used to such humidity levels.

Under-pressure situations will cause more sweat and that could result in cramps or hamstring and calf injuries if players don’t keep themselves hydrated enough during the match. Wind speed is likely to be around 10 kmph and that would certainly help them keep their cool in tense moments. The sky will remain partly cloudy throughout the match.

No Delays- Mainly clear sky would continue tomorrow in Amritsar airport. Day temperatures are near normal. Night temperature is expected to rise but will remain cool.

Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport, Lucknow
No Delays- Day could be uncomfortable in Lucknow airport as temperature is expected to rise. Morning remains a bit pleasant for air travelers. Sky will be mainly clear with wind blowing from northwest.

Lal Bahadur Shashtri International Airport, Varanasi
No Delays- Night temperature will fall tomorrow in Varanasi but day remains hot with an expected rise in temperatures. Sky will be mainly clear and winds will be westerly.

Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Airport, Patna
No Delays- After a fall yesterday, day temperatures in Patna will again rise. Expected rise in morning temperature will not be a reprieve. Sky will be mainly clear in Patna.

Netaji Subash Chandra Bose International Airport, Kolkata
No delays- Kolkata could have thundery development tomorrow evening onwards. Both day and night temperatures would maintain. Winds would come from southwest direction.

Bangalore Airport
No delays – Temperatures remain stable in Bangalore airport that will have partly cloudy sky and winds blowing from southeast direction. Thundery development is possible towards evening hours.

Delhi expected to remain the same; hot and dry winds over east to continue

Similar day temperatures in Delhi are expected to continue for a couple of days. A rise and a fall of one degree would be witnessed in following two days. There will be some clouds in Delhi tomorrow but there is no chance of rain in Delhi except thundery development. The approaching Western Disturbance (WD) is weak and unlikely to affect Delhi much in terms of rain.

Temperatures in Delhi during the day will be above the average temperature of 36 degrees. Wind conditions in the capital will maintain, as northerly to northeasterly winds would continue during the next two days.

Rain in Delhi is possible on 17th of April as the next Western Disturbance is expected to be much stronger than tomorrow's WD. The stronger one is expected to affect the north and northwest India from 15th of April onwards.

Towards east, Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi and Patna are witnessing temperatures in late thirties and early forties. Other than Lucknow, temperatures of rest of the places are above average of 2 to 3 degrees. Days in these parts would continue to remain hot and dry as westerly land winds will penetrate. Night temperatures are also approaching mid-twenties in these places clearly showing the impact of heating during the day. They will continue to rise in coming few days.

Rain is expected to be more in northeastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. The recently passed cyclonic circulation from Jammu & Kashmir has reached over Meghalaya and connected with the trough (region of intensified moist winds) of low pressure area.

The trough runs from Meghalaya to south Orissa across Gangetic West Bengal. Rain could occur over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Orissa due to this system during the next two days.

Another such trough lies just in the heart of the country in central India from northeast Rajasthan to Vidarbha across Madhya Pradesh. But the weather system is weak and will not give rain, yet the sky will be partly cloudy from Kota in Rajasthan to Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and Nagpur in Maharashtra. But these clouds would fail to arrest the rising day temperatures at these places during the next two day.

Winds from both east and west direction are colliding in Peninsular India and a low pressure area persists from central India to Kerala. Some showers could be expected in south interior Karnataka, Kerala and adjoining Tamil Nadu in next couple of days.

IPL WEATHER DELHI, 12th of April

DELHI DAREDEVILS VS SUNRISERS HYDERABAD
Ferozshah Kotla Stadium
Match starts at 8pm

Looking for their first win in this edition of Indian Premier league, Delhi Daredevils could not have expected more from the weather gods as it’s likely to be pleasant and comfortable as far as conditions are concerned.

They are taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad, the team that has seen regular thundery developments in the last few days in Hyderabad that marred their evening practice sessions whenever they played host. On the other hand, Delhi Daredevils will try to make a new start in the tournament after losing the last match against Mumbai Indians in Mumbai. The weather over Mumbai was quite similar to that of Delhi for today, the only difference will be the sea breeze that was exploited well by the Mumbai Indians bowlers to make Daredevils batsmen succumb to the swing bowling of Johnsons, Pollards and Mallingas.

So the sea breeze will be missing and that will add to the national capital team's chances to register their first win in the T20 cricket tournament. The temperature during the match would be around 29 degrees which is not so warm or cold. There may be few clouds at the start of the match but will disappear in the first hour of play. The humidity level during the match would be 36% that is quite comfortable. Northerly winds would blow over the Ferozshah Kotla ground straight from the Western Himalayan Region during the match.

Clear weather for tomorrow in Delhi; rain likely to increase in NE

Weather in Delhi will be mostly clear tomorrow and clouds may return thereafter as another Western Disturbance (WD) is in the offing from 13th of April over Jammu & Kashmir. Chances of rain in Delhi for the moment look bleak but there will be clouds in the sky post the arrival of the Western Disturbance.

Temperatures in Delhi are above normal in spite of a drop during the last 24 hours. They would remain stable for next 24 hours to see a marginal rise thereafter. By Saturday and Sunday day temperatures in Delhi will be around 38 degrees. The night temperatures would also be above the average temperature of 21.3 degrees.

The present WD is moving away in east-northeast direction and possibly leave the region by tonight. Till then there could be rain at one or two places in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Wind conditions would change once the WD leaves, as northerly-northwesterly winds would replace the easterly-southeasterly winds.

After a brief break on 12th of April, another WD will come close to the Western Himalayan region and would affect north and northwest India for next two days starting from 13th of April.

In a day or two, the present WD over Jammu & Kashmir will reach towards northeastern states that are receiving continuous moisture feed from the southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal along the trough (region of intensified moist winds) of low pressure area. The trough runs from sub-Himalayan West Bengal to north coastal Andhra Pradesh across Gangetic West Bengal and Orissa.

During the next two to three days, there will be an increase in rain and one or two places will get rain in Gangetic West Bengal, Orissa and Sikkim in the east and some more places in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur and Tripura in northeast.

Another trough of low pressure area extends from Rajasthan to Vidarbha across Madhya Pradesh. This will give rain at a couple of places. Rain is possible at some places over Chhattisgarh due to this weak weather system in the next 24 hours.

IPL WEATHER PUNE, 11th of April

PUNE WARRIORS VS RAJASTHAN ROYALS
Subrato Roy Sahara Stadium
Match starts at 8pm

The maximum temperatures of about 38 degrees will fall at least by 7 degrees by 8pm when host Pune Warriors will take on Rajasthan Royals. Rajasthan Royals will find the weather much different from Jaipur where they completely outclassed the former two days ago under a partly cloudy sky and winds from northwest direction.

Warm conditions would give way to a bit pleasant conditions as the match progresses. Temperatures will come down to 26 degrees that is again a fall of 5 degrees from 31 degrees at the start of the match. Clearly players from the both teams will have to counter the gradual drop in temperature during the match.

Match will start with northwesterly winds that will turn westerly from the Arabian Sea. Riding of these winds from the Sea, humidity level will also increase with the progress of the game. It will pick up at least by 10% from 35 to 45%. Sky in Pune will be mostly clear during the match hours.

The maximum temperature will be around 35 degrees when the first ball is bowled and will drop down to 29 degrees at the climax of the match. Humidity level will be 20 to 25% and winds would gain in speed towards the end of the second innings.

Bangalore is known for its beautiful weather conditions throughout the year and it will keep up its reputation, the weather won’t take a toll on players from either side. The sky will be partly cloudy throughout the match.

Lucknow and Varanasi are also witnessing temperatures in early forties. Morning could see a rise in temperatures that will drop after the next 24 hours.

Rain is expected to continue over Sikkim in the east and over Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland in the northeast.
