According to latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, many places in India are likely to receive rain today and tomorrow. Here’s a look:
North India – Weather could once again turn dusty and windy today in Delhi/NCR, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and west Uttar Pradesh. Dust storms could be accompanied by light rain. In the hills Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh could witness light rain in next 24 hours. However, the intensity of thunderstorm tomorrow is likely to reduce in North India
East and Northeast India – In the last 24 hours there has been good amounts of rain in West Bengal and Northeast India. Cooch Behar in West Bengal recorded unusual heavy rain of 135 mm in a span of 24 hours. Other places to have recorded 20 to 30 mm of rain were Jalpaiguri, Daimond Harbour, Dum Dum, Kailshahar, Canning and Guwahati. Rain is expected to continue in Bihar and north and central West Bengal for another 24-48 hours. Though the southern part of the state could see reduced rain activity. Rain in the Northeast could either sustain or reduce marginally.
Central India – Light to moderate rain lashed Vidarbha and Odisha in Central India yesterday. Forecast show, rain is expected to continue as a result of discontinuity of winds. Cities which recorded rain in Vidarbha and Odisha yesterday were, Akola – 4 mm, Nagpur – 0.2 mm, Parbhani – 1.8 mm, Solapur – 0.7 mm and Balasore – 10.1 mm. Light to very light rain is also expected to occur in isolated pockets of Chhattisagh and Jharkhand.
South India – Weather in South India will not see any major changes for the next 48 hours. While rain in Kerala will continue for next couple of days, it may decrease in Tamil Nadu. At the same time light rain may continue to occur in pockets of south Karnataka. Telangana however, could witness some spot rainfall. In the last 24 hours, Ramagundam and Machlipatnam in Andhra Pradesh recorded 25 mm and 10 mm of rain respectively. Gulbarga and Chitradurga in Karnataka received 10 mm and 36 mm of rain. Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu – 17 mm. Kottayam and Punalur in Kerala recorded 15.6 mm and 5.9 mm of precipitation.
According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, a spell of dust storm led to a significant drop in the mercury levels in Delhi and many other parts of northwest India yesterday. As the maximums dipped by 1 to 4 degrees, the day temperature in Delhi recorded 38.6⁰C as opposed to 41.7⁰C on 3rd April.
Maximum temperature in Rajasthan which was settling around 44⁰C to 46⁰C also dropped a couple of notches due to rain in the last 24 hours. 9 mm of rain was recorded in Jaisalmer, 1.8 mm in Churu and traces of rainfall was received in Jodhpur.
Some other cities to have recorded below normal maximum in the last 24 hours were: Ludhiana - 37⁰C, Ajmer – 39.8⁰C, Udaipur – 38.4⁰C and Karnal – 35.6⁰C.
“Delhi did not record any rain but dust storms and a flow of moderate and cool southeasterly winds since morning yesterday, led to a drop in the day temperature in the capital city. Another spell of dust storm and light rain in Delhi is likely towards the evening today. However, this will not drop the maximum further”, says Samar Chaudhury, of Skymet Meteorology Division.
Maximum temperature in Delhi both today and tomorrow is expected to settle below 40⁰C. Weather in North India, both in the plains as well in the hills of Jammu and Kashmir, is expected to be less hot tomorrow, due to light rain and thunderstorm activity.
