Dust storm and thundershowers to hit Delhi, Noida, Gurugram April 16 onward

Dust storm in Delhi

Due to effect of Western Disturbance and Cyclonic Circulation over Rajasthan, yesterday parts of Delhi and NCR witnessed dust storm and thundershower activities at few places. The Western Disturbance as an upper air system in lower levels persist over Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining North Pakistan. A trough from this system is extending from North Rajasthan to Madhya Pradesh across south of Delhi.

The dust storm activity is likely to continue in parts of Delhi today as well towards late afternoon or evening with light rain in offing. On April 14, temperatures are likely to increase, and heat wave type condition would prevail over most parts of Delhi, Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram and Ghaziabad. While, another Western Disturbance is approaching the hills by April 15. It's induced Cyclonic Circulation is expected to form over Central Pakistan and adjoining West Rajasthan. Moreover, south/southwesterly winds are expected to reach from Arabian Sea to Rajasthan region. Hence, conditions becoming favourable for widespread activity over the Northwest Plains including Delhi. Great relief in terms of temperature would be a sight in Delhi and neighbourhood areas between April 16-18. The experts foresee that temperatures might even drop to 33°C on April 17.

While on April 16 and 17, dust storm and thundershower activities at most places with chances of squalls and moderate rain at few places is expected. This would lead to drop in temperature over the region and as the system would move away, temperatures would gradually rise from April 19 once again.

Dust storm and strong winds might cause damage to crop. With this, pollution levels would be in severe zone on April 15 and on April 16 it would shift to slightly poor zone. However, on April 17 much relief would be seen from bad air quality. The pollution levels would then be in satisfactory category.

Tsunami warning issued post earthquake in Indonesia

A strong earthquake of 6.8 magnitude has rocked the eastern part of Indonesia. As per the reports one person has died. Also, a tsunami warning has been issued after this earthquake struck off the east coast of Sulawesi Island, Indonesia. Hence, resulted the residents to flee to higher ground.

The US Geological Survey said that the quake which had hit a depth of 17.5 km. Indonesia’s disaster agency issued a tsunami warning for coastal communities in Morowali district, and residents were advised to move away from the coast.

Indonesia Earthquake

The epicentre of the quake was far from the Sulawesi city of Palu, which was devastated by an earthquake and tsunami in September 2018 killing more than 4000 people. However, the tremors were felt there and caused people to run into the streets in panic.

Authorities warn considerable damage to poorly built structures possible in Sulawesi from 6.8-magnitude quake.

The local residents mentioned that the earthquake was a strong and long lasting one. Indonesia is situated along the seismic and earthquake hotspot known as the Ring of Fire.

The force of last year’s quake saw entire neighbourhoods levelled by liquefaction. It is a process where the ground starts behaving like a liquid and swallows up the earth like quicksand.

Dust storm, rain and thundershower forecast for Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh

Rain in Punjab

Isolated rain and dust-storm activities have occurred over Northern Plains during the last two to three days. The intensity however remained light. During the last 24 hours, we have seen light rains over parts of North Haryana and Punjab. Though the weather of Rajasthan has remained dry.

Today however we expect isolated rain and dust storm activities in parts of Punjab and North Rajasthan, as had been forecast earlier. These activities will continue in isolated pockets until April 15.

Thereafter, a fresh Western Disturbance will induce a Cyclonic Circulation over Rajasthan on April 16. We expect fairly widespread activities over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, North Madhya Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh. Isolated hailstorm cannot be ruled out at one or two places.

Weather activities will begin in the form of dust storm over parts of Rajasthan, Delhi and NCR and then will be followed by rain and thundershower.

So, on April 16 and 17, Pre-Monsoon activities will be on their peak over Northern Plains as well as many parts of Madhya Pradesh.

During this time, we expect the temperatures to subside over most parts. Heat wave conditions which were prevailing over many parts of Rajasthan will abate.

By April 18, the Western Disturbance will start moving away and the Cyclonic Circulation will fade away. The trough will keep persisting across Uttar Pradesh. However, scattered rain and thundershower activities may continue over parts of West Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas of Haryana.

By April 19, the weather will once again clear up and temperatures will start increasing.

Fresh snow and rains ahead for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir

Rain in Himachal Pradesh Indiamike 600

At present, a feeble Western Disturbance is affecting Jammu and Kashmir. This may give scattered light to moderate thundershower activities over Jammu and Kashmir until today evening. Thereafter, the weather will become dry.

Another fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir on April 16. This upcoming Western Disturbance is being speculated to be much stronger than the present one. On April 16 and 17 we expect fairly widespread rain and thundershower activities over the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh as well as at many places over Uttarakhand. During this time, we also expect some snowfall activities over the upper reaches of the Himalayas.

The effect of this Western Disturbance will be observed back at the Northern Plains of the country i.e. Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, many parts of Rajasthan as well as over Madhya Pradesh.

After April 17, the weather activities will start reducing and the Western Disturbance will move away. This year we are witnessing active Western Disturbances in the month of April also which is not a usual sight. Usually by the month of March Western Disturbances start travelling in the upper latitudes and their strength start weakening over the Indian subcontinent.

Heat wave sweeps Maharashtra, mercury reaches 44 degrees at several places

melting-the-sun

Heat wave has tightened its grip over Maharashtra, with mercury soaring to new levels everyday. Thursday saw mercury soaring beyond 44 at several places. In fact, Chandrapur was seen battling severe heat wave conditions where mercury settled at 45.2.

Akola recorded 44.3, followed by Amravati 44.2, Parbhani 43.8, Nagpur 43.5, and Adilabad 43.3.

No changes were seen in the hot weather conditions om Friday as well, as the day remained extremely hot. The reason behind this can be attributed to the dry and hot northwesterly winds which have been running from hotter regions of Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Slowly and steadily, these warm weather conditions would also cover coastal parts of the state as well. In the next 2-3 days, Mumbai would see temperatures soaring to 38., making weather unbearable on account of high humidity.

There are chances of dust storm and thundershowers likely during the evening hours over few parts od Vidarbha such as Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondiya, Nagpur, Wardha and Yavatmal. However, these pre-Monsoon activities would not bring any relief and that it would be only momentary one only.

Skymet Weather predicts that there is no escape from the heat wave during the next 3-4 days.

We can expect some relief from April 16, as a trough is likely to form which would be running across Maharashtra. This trough would give scattered rains, which would in turn drop the mercury.

Rain in East India

Eastern parts of the country have seen a poor performance in the beginning of the Pre-Monsoon season. However, at the end of March, Gangetic West Bengal was excess, Jharkhand saw normal rains with Bihar has been largely deficient.

Thereafter, there have been a few good spells of Pre Monsoon activities in the first week of April. Jharkhand became the second state in East India to become large excess by April 7 while Bihar improved to deficit.

Moreover, there have been good rains in the last few days, due to which all three states have become largely excess in just about five days.

In fact, presently, Gangetic West Bengal is at present 136 percent excess, Jharkhand at 79 percent, and Bihar at a good 85 percent.

Due to these rains, the three states of East India which includes Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar have remained away from the intense heat gripping the region. Temperatures have not been very intense, and heat wave conditions were far away. Usually, some extreme heat makes its way into parts of Bihar.

Now, the next few days will see Pre Monsoon activities on a reduced note in Bihar as these showers will be confined to the foothills of Bihar which will see good showers. Jharkhand will see some rains today and tomorrow, again on a reduced note.

West Bengal will also see some Pre-Monsoon activities today as well as tomorrow, however, not as intense as the last few days. Rains will almost take a backseat around April 14 and 15 while the next spell is likely around April 17.

Recent report finds Canada heating twice as fast as any other country

team_en_290153

Canada is considered as one of the coldest countries of the world. But not anymore as temperatures here as rising twice as fast as any other country, says a recent report published by the national government agency, Environment and Climate Change Canada.

The reason for these rising temperatures is none other than ‘Global Warming’ indeed.

The average temperature in Canada today is 1.7 degrees Celsius (3 degrees Fahrenheit) higher than 70 years ago, according to the report. By comparison, the average global temperature increase during the same period is 0.8 degrees Celsius.

Changes in temperature already show in various areas of the country and scientists say they will only intensify. Canada's Arctic has seen the deepest impact and will continue to warm at more than double the global rate. The Canadian Arctic and Atlantic Oceans both are experiencing "longer and more widespread sea-ice-free conditions", the report says.

Precipitation is projected to increase, on average, yet summer rainfall may decrease in particular regions. Despite of increased rains the availability of freshwater is changing rapidly, with the risk of water supply shortages expected to increase in the summer.

Hotter temperatures could mean more heat waves and a higher risk of wildfires and droughts in some parts of the country.

Also, the oceans are expected to become more acidic and less oxygenated, which could harm marine life to great and irreversible extent.

Its high time we start using the classic case of Canada to rather tread towards some corrective measures for a healthier planet.
