Heat wave to return in parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada of Maharashtra

maharashtra p

Heat wave conditions were prevailing over many parts of Maharashtra particularly in districts of North Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha and Marathwada till April 15, wherein day temperatures were exceeding 40˚C.

Thereafter, due to scattered rain and thundershower activities over all these areas, temperatures decreased significantly over the entire state of Maharashtra and dropped to below 40˚C.

However, now once again due to the absence of any significant weather activity and change in wind direction since the last few days, temperatures in Maharashtra are following a rising trend.

At present, many parts of Vidarbha and North Madhya Maharashtra are witnessing heat wave like conditions with maximum temperatures above 40˚C.

Yesterday, the maximum temperature recorded by Akola was 42.2˚C, followed by Parbhani 41.9˚C, Brahmapuri 41.7˚C, Amravati 41.6˚C, Malegaon 41.2˚C, Wardha 41.2˚C, Jalgaon 40.8˚C, Chandrapur 40.5˚C and Solapur 40.4˚C.

Now due to further rise in day temperatures, heat wave condition will make an appearance in isolated pockets of Vidarbha region in Maharashtra.

Due to the north-south trough running close to the vicinity of Vidarbha, sky in eastern parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada may become partly cloudy but chances of rain and thundershowers are very less. Still light rains cannot be ruled out.

Delhi to witness a week of 'Loo' accompanied with temperatures crossing 40 degrees

mgl7541

After a rainy episode last week, Delhi is now gearing up for some summer heat. Yesterday, Safdarjung Observatory in Delhi recorded the maximum temperature at 37.2 °C.

In the absence of any weather system and the blowing of hot and dry northwesterly winds from Rajasthan, the coming days are going to be hot for Delhi.

Although a Western Disturbance is approaching the hills, but the system will not be strong enough to bring in or influence any weather in the Plains.

An incremental rise in temperatures is expected to take place starting today onward in the city. Forecasters at Skymet expect today’s temperatures to reach the mark of 38 °C, while tomorrow it touch 39-degree mark. Day after tomorrow that is on Wednesday the maximum temperatures will be recorded at 40 degrees. After this the temperatures are only going to rise further even crossing the 40-degree mark.

No rains are in bags for Delhi, for at least next one week. Although, the temperatures in the line of 37 and 38 degree Celsius are a normal sight at this time of the year, however, the week ahead seems promising above normal temperatures. Days will be windy and a ‘loo’ like condition cannot be ruled out.

Rains to continue over Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for next 24 hours

Light rains to make an appearance over Hyderabad

During the last 24 hours, fairly widespread rain and thundershower activities associated with lightning strikes and thunder squalls were witnessed over North coastal Andhra Pradesh, with a comparatively less intensity over the state of Telangana. Although, Hyderabad still managed to receive scattered rain and thundershowers in the afternoon hours.

As of now, these pre-monsoon activities are likely to continue for another 24 hours. Now, we expect Telangana to also receive good rain and thundershower activities during the next 24 hours as the Confluence Zone continues to extend from Gangetic Bengal to Interior Karnataka while passing through Odisha and parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Therefore, these activities are only going to pick up pace.

At the same time, scattered activities are likely to continue over North coastal Andhra Pradesh. Intensity of these activities will also increase over Telangana. However, Rayalaseema will only get subdued Monsoon activities. However, isolated rain and thundershower activities cannot be ruled out over Rayalaseema as well.

Due to these activities the temperatures over, Coastal Andhra Pradesh will remain below normal, but Telangana will be hot and humid.

After 24 hours, activities will subside over Telangana, but coastal Andhra Pradesh may continue with on and off rain and thundershower activities.

These pre-monsoon activities will now continue with an on and off intensity throughout the Pre-Monsoon season because of the formation of a semi-permanent trough or Confluence Zone extending from Eastern parts of the country to South Peninsula. It will keep oscillating from East to West. Sometimes, activities intensify over Andhra Pradesh and sometimes over Telangana. Therefore, the weather is not expected to go dry completely over these states and the pre-Monsoon activities will continue.

West Bengal, Odisha to continue receiving rains and thundershower for next 24 hours

Odisha Rains 1

During the last 24 hours, Gangetic West Bengal and North coastal Odisha received intense thunder-squall as well thundershower activities. These activities were due to a Confluence Zone extending from Gangetic West Bengal to Telangana and Interior Karnataka. Humid winds from Southeast, blowing over Bay of Bengal were merging with hot and dry winds from Northwest over the area leading to Convective Cloud formation and subsequent thundershower and rainfall activities. Lightning strikes were also very frequent in this rain episode.

Now, this Confluence Zone is likely to persist for another 24 hours. Therefore, we expect rain and thundershower activities with strong surface winds, lightning strikes and Nor’westers like activities to continue over Gangetic West Bengal as well as over Odisha during the next 24 hours.

Thereafter the intensity will go down, however the weather will not go completely dry. On and off activities are likely to continue.

This is the favorable time during the Pre-Monsoon season that these activities intensify. When the temperatures rise and there is moisture incursion, Nortwester or Kal Baisakhi becomes violent.

We expect a few more incidents of these activities to re-occur during the month of April. In the month of May, the intensity of such episodes is likely to increase even further with the rising temperatures.

Delhi metro to become first in the world to run on 100 percent solar power

640x480-delhi-metro-violet-line

Delhi Metro has a pretty good reputation and stands in line with the metro networks of London, Shanghai, Beijing, and New York as all these have a network of more than 300 kilometers. Now, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) plans to take it further with the introduction of a greener edge to the same.

In a bid to become world's first 100 per cent green energy metro rail network, Violet Line in Delhi Metro has now started running on solar power received from the massive Solar Power Plant back at Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa. This is for the first time that DMRC is outsourcing its solar powered. Otherwise, until now Delhi Metro only utilized solar power generated on its own stations for functions such as lighting and air conditioning. Now, however the solar energy will be used for the operation of the trains as well.

According to the DMRC statement, in a calendar year, on an average, around 345 million units (MU) of power will be received from Rewa. In the year 2018-19, Delhi Metro consumed about 1092 MU of power for its operations.

Delhimetro

At present, DMRC uses solar energy for almost 60% of its electricity needs. It plans to run all its operations on solar by 2021. Once this is done, it would become the world’s first 100% green energy metro rail network.

And not only this, with this initiative, DMRC expects to save over Rs 41 crore.

This shift by DMRC is one step forward towards a greener future and sets a very nice example for many more projects to come.
