Weather Forecast May 1: Fani to become extremely severe Cyclone, heat wave in Delhi and Central India

The Cyclone Fani has finally intensified into very severe cyclone Fani and is over Southwest and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal. Conditions are favourable for Fani to become extremely severe cyclone shortly. It would continue to move northwestwards and then recurve in north/northeast direction towards the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha by the night of May 1.

With this, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely over Interior Karnataka, Kerala and parts of Tamil Nadu. Rains would increase over Coastal Andhra Pradesh as well. Sea conditions would remain rough to very rough off and along the coastal Andhra Pradesh and coastal Tamil Nadu. During this time, wind speed would be 40-50 kmph gusting up to 60 kmph.

While in Central India, heat wave conditions continue to grip Rajasthan, Gujarat, parts of Madhya Pradesh and at many places of Vidarbha.
Hot and dry winds from the west and northwest direction would keep the temperatures above normal.

Heading to East India, a Cyclonic Circulation is persisting over Assam and adjoining areas. Humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are increasing moisture. Thus, light to moderate rains will be a sight in Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland. Also, isolated heavy to very heavy spells are possible over these states. Whereas, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura would witness light to moderate pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers. Isolated rains are a possibility over Gangetic West Bengal, parts of Jharkhand as well as coastal Odisha.

Up in the North, a Western Disturbance is over North Jammu and Kashmir with its induced cyclonic circulation over Punjab and adjoining areas. Scattered rains would continue over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. While, isolated rains will be seen over Punjab and Haryana. Weather of Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and North Rajasthan would be hot and dry.
