Weather Forecast June 9: Southwest Monsoon 2019 makes an onset in Kerala, to hit Northeast India anytime soon

The Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala on June 8, 2019. Conditions are favourable for further advancement of Southwest Monsoon into remaining parts of South Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area and Kerala, some more parts of Tamil Nadu, southwest, southeast, east-central and northeast Bay of Bengal and some parts of central Arabian Sea and west-central Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours.

A Low-Pressure Area is over Southeast Arabian Sea is likely to get more marked and move in North direction. Thus, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected over Lakshadweep. However, as system gets more marked, rains would now reduce over Kerala would see scattered light to moderate rain at many places of Kerala and South Interior Karnataka wherein Mangalore and Mysore would witness moderate rains. Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu would see good rains. Also, rain and thundershower activities are likely over North Andhra Pradesh Coast and Rayalaseema. Srikakulam, Kurnool and Anantapur might get to see light rains. It is expected that Southwest Monsoon 2019 would anytime hit the northeastern states of the country. Presently, a Cyclonic Circulation is over Assam. With this, southerly winds would continue to blow over Northeast India.

Thus, scattered moderate rainfall with isolated heavy spells can be seen over northeastern states. While, light to moderate rains will be a sight in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
In East, A trough is extending from Northwest plains to Odisha across Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Light rains will be a sight over Northeast Bihar, Central and eastern parts of West Bengal and few parts of Jharkhand including Coastal Odisha. Amidst this, isolated thunderstorm activity might be seen over rest of Jharkhand and interior Odisha.

In Central India, due to strong southwesterlies, temperatures would drop and lead to abatement of heat wave from Gujarat. Along with this, light rain and thundershowers is a possibility over South Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, extreme South Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.

Finally, up in the North, temperatures are expected to rise over the hills. There are chances that isolated activity might occur over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. A trough is running from Central Pakistan to Odisha across South Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. This system is not strong enough to bring any weather activity. Whereas, hot and humid weather conditions will be seen over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh. While, hot and dry weather will be seen in Delhi, Southwest Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan with heat wave conditions to persist in parts of Delhi and NCR.
