Weather Forecast June 16: Cyclone Vayu weakens into a Cyclonic Storm, strong winds to lash Gujarat coast and Maharashtra

The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Vayu has weakened into a Cyclonic Storm and now lies close to the Northeast Arabian Sea. Thus, strong winds will continue along the Gujarat coast, Maharashtra and Northeast Arabian Sea. Scattered to moderate rainfall activity along the coastal areas would continue while rains will increase over the interior parts of Gujarat after 24 hours. Temperatures are expected to drop further over Madhya Pradesh and its nearby areas. While, isolated rain and thundershowers might occur over the interior parts of Maharashtra. Mumbai would continue to witness rains with day temperature settling in the lower 30s with high waves expected along the coast. Rainfall activity with few moderate spells is expected to continue at some places in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Also, temperatures are expected to drop by two to four degrees during the day and there is a chance that heat wave conditions might abate in wake of humid southwesterlies blowing from the Arabian Sea.

Up in the North, a Western Disturbance is now lying over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. A Cyclonic Circulation is over Central Pakistan and a Trough from this system is extending across the Northwest Plains. Thus, scattered rain and thundershowers are a possibility in Jammu and Kashmir with activities at few places in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Rain and thundershower will also be observed at many places in Punjab, North Haryana, few places of South Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan. Dust storm and thundershowers are also possible at few places in Rajasthan, Haryana and Delhi. In wake of these weather activities, day temperature may drop by four to six degrees in the plains of the country.

Moving towards East India, a Cyclonic Circulation is expected to form over North Bay of Bengal in the coming 48-72 hours. A trough is extending from East Uttar Pradesh up to North Bay of Bengal across Bihar. Thus, scattered light rains will be a sight in parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.

In Northeast India, a Cyclonic Circulation is over Arunachal Pradesh and adjoining East Assam. A trough is seen running from Bihar up to Arunachal Pradesh across Assam. Thus, rainfall activities will enhance over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim and Northeastern states.

Finally, down South, moderate rain and thundershowers along the coast of Kerala and Karnataka would continue with isolated heavy spells. While, the activity along the interior parts of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh would reduce. Isolated moderate spells might occur over the extreme North Andhra Pradesh coast with light rains at few places over the remaining parts of the state. Bengaluru would witness light rains with comfortable weather conditions, whereas Chennai will see hot and humid weather. Hyderabad also stands a chance of light rain and thunderstorm.
